Project Overview

Inspired by the warm, wooden aesthetic of traditional Japanese architecture, an old house has been beautifully transformed into a bridal studio. Amid the hum of traffic and the glow of neon lights, it exudes a quiet, understated charm. Vintage-inspired interior design encourages the incorporation of wood grains, retro floral tiles, vintage doors, and red-brick walls, giving spaces a curated and lived-in feel. Such design evokes nostalgia, transporting us to another time and place. Within this space, every couple can revisit their earliest memories together, reminiscing about how they met and the milestones they’ve shared.

Team

Project Brief

Inspired by Japanese "serenity and order," the design aspires to create a warm, unpretentious bridal studio in a bustling city. The two-story house is nestled in an old alleyway. Its first-floor facade, clad in reclaimed wood with glass and lattice windows, allows a soft, warm light to spill outward. On the second floor, wooden lattices and horizontal lines recompose the exterior wall, lending the building a cleaner and more harmonious look. When viewed from the street corner, the natural wood tones reveal a rustic charm that adds tranquility to the urban landscape.

Project Innovation/Need

In contrast to the bright, glamorous aesthetics of typical bridal studios, the space adopts calming dark tones and the unrefined textures of natural materials to create an atmosphere of warmth and human-centered design. Its open-plan layout offers free-flowing, cohesive spaces that feel laid-back and cozy. The bar area, with its geometric patterns, introduces both order and creates a striking focal point. Overall, the design concept emphasizes a “lived-in artistic environment” rather than a mere display area.

Design Challenge

Due to the limited ceiling height, the interior design aims to preserve as much vertical space as possible. After reinforcing the ceiling structure, a deep gray finish draws the eye upward, making the space feel more expansive. Instead of a solid wall, the perforated metal mesh runs alongside the staircase, creating a sense of openness while adding a vintage charm. This design also lets the red-brick wall and staircase emerge subtly through shifting light and shadow, creating a subtle yet striking visual feature.

Sustainability

Wherever possible, the original features of the old house are preserved. After repainting and repairing, tired and worn furniture is transformed into stunning pieces that breathe new life into the space. This sustainable approach minimizes material waste while reinforcing the overarching design narrative. Low-formaldehyde wood elements further ensure a healthy and safe indoor environment.
