Project Brief

As a handmade bakery shop, the master follows the traditional fermentation method, using the organic ingredients and the original recipe to offer the fresh, soft and richly flavoured bread. The overall interior vibe provides the feeling of industrial, organic and rough.

The broken wall as the main feature of the shop, which using the way of continuation to connect the bread display area to the brick counter. It not only captures customer's attention from the street, but optimized the space moving flow. The concealed LED strip light follows the shape of the feature wall and lit up the product on the shelf, it brings the overall atmosphere to the next level.

The combination of various materials and lightings enriches the layers of the space, such as textured stain paint, organic tile, oak timber and rough effect render. They just like the different ingredients of the bread, using the proper proportions and bold shapes to cooperate with each other to achieve a perfect product.

Project Innovation/Need

A nice looking shop with the stunning bread make the business successful.
This project is similar as a bridge, leading the customer to another wonderful space to try the new things. It is also a platform for the business to offer the nice experience.

The business owner is a young couple, their bread is popular in the local market. The success enhance their confidence to enlarge the business plan, such as cooperate with the community supermarket and grocery, and open stores in other states.

Design Challenge

The real challenges are the broken feature wall and the budget. The client is a young couple, their budget is limited which is only $40-50k. As a creative design studio, the goal is how to convert the ideas into reality.

We are trying to achieve the real effect of the broken wall, it is impossible to allow us to build a concrete wall then smash it. The Hebel panel is the key material of this effect.

We established the Hebel wall alone with the display area to the brick counter then draw the line on site. We followed the line and using the chisel and hammer to smash the wall to the basic shape, especially on the edge. Finally, mixed the concrete to brush the surface and the edge. The result is fantastic, the edge is rough but very natural looking.

Sustainability

Regarding the sustainability, all the materials are from the local market.
The artificial lighting in this shop is limited but sufficient, it saves the energy as well. We always believe a good lighting design is where creates beautiful environment that people love to be in but don't know why.
