Project Brief

Removing the original, traditional partitions, the designer arranges the living and the dining room as the centre of the home, extending different functional areas from here. As if walking into a gallery, the entrance guides one to arrive at the kitchen/bar area with ocean blue. The dark color palette contrasts with the cool grey surroundings, framing an obvious and continuous flow visually. Since there are often family members or friends visiting, the entrance is equipped with bigger shoe storage rooms. A spacious living/dining open-floor area offers possibilities to dine, discuss, rest and present ideas together. A flexible set of furniture allows diverse changes of the space based on different situations.

Project Innovation/Need

The space is partitioned through different color palettes. The use of architectural concrete and wooden elements create a Zen, simplistic, and tranquil vibe, in the living room, the open-plan study, and the high-rise meditation space with a translucent sliding door. The private bedroom on the left side is expanded visually through use of transparent glass panels while maintained private with a dark curtain. The sofa and balcony in front of the kitchen, are furnished with warm colors of red and orange, contributing to a cozy area that relaxes one after working and staying focused for a long time. In a space like this, the resident can put the tasks at hand aside, fixing the focus afar to enjoy the ever-changing beauty of the environment.

Design Challenge

The French-windows applied introduce a great amount of natural lighting in the whole space, meanwhile boosting better ventilation. The greenery at each corner, steel items, exposed pipings, balcony bricks, and bronzed pendant lights, all create a delicate and considerate space of modern industrial style. With elements and colors producing an organic vibe; the blue and the grey represent one’s faith and beliefs; the orange and earth colors bring in power of warmth and sympathy. Green palettes at each corner, depict harmonious nature with peace and hope, echoing with the owner’s attention and contribution to the environment throughout the years. By taking the cultural meanings and psychological effects of colors into the design, the living environment is established richer and livelier for the owner to go on with inspirations and improvements, but also to have a safe harbor to relax one’s mind, accompanying each every day.

Sustainability

The French windows, glass panels and open-floor plan contribute to a fluid living space that allows sunlight to be introduced in, and electric lights to travel through corners. The heavy-duty layer of the laminate flooring establishes a safe and durable space for the visitors and the owner since there are often people coming and going, reducing possibilities to replace the decorations. The open-floor plan is with lesser partitions and decorations on the ceiling. The concise, practical, and flexible designs are close to the owner's daily habit, maximizing the space utilization.
