Project Overview

“Home” is a place where people can feel warm and comfortable, and it serves as a sanctuary for growth and relaxation. The homeowners of this interior design project, a newlywed couple with two young children, prioritized the safety of their kids during the design process. The spatial pattern and flow plan were made more spacious than usual to prevent collisions and injuries. Additionally, the homeowner gave much consideration to lighting and ventilation in the living space. Planning the functional space and window locations played a significant role in achieving the desired result.

Project Brief

When it came to designing the interior, the designer gave special attention to the entrance. To create a welcoming feel, the designer crafted a small platform at the end of the foyer where the owners can keep their keys and display family photos. Additionally, wall lamps were carefully installed to emit a warm and relaxing ambiance for the residents. As for the cabinets beside the entrance, they were designed in an L-shape and extended up to the dining area. These cabinets feature an openwork belt design, which cleverly provides space for daily necessities or decorative ornaments. The design also allows the homeowners to effortlessly change the overall living style of their home by replacing the decorative ornaments in the future. Moreover, the lower cabinets were fitted with iron shelves that can be used as storage space for children's toys and books, presenting an organized and tidy look.

Project Innovation/Need

The living area is designed with a light wood base and soft furniture textures to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. To maximize the building's natural lighting, the designer used an open space plan that seamlessly integrates the living, dining, and study areas. This allows natural light to flood the room without any obstructions. In the kitchen, sliding doors are utilized to define the cooking area and prevent cooking fumes from spreading throughout the rest of the house.

Design Challenge

The designer has maintained consistency with the wooden tones of the shared living area while adding a water-blue tone to create a fresh and elegant atmosphere leading to the master bedroom. The space is fitted with same-color double-layer honeycomb curtains that allow the sunlight to reflect through the translucent honeycomb curtains into the room during the day, creating a transparent environment that is not blinding. During the night, light blue semi-blind honeycomb curtains are used to establish a comfortable and relaxing sleeping atmosphere. The designer incorporated a diagonal iron shelf next to the door of the master bedroom, connecting it to the desk, to increase the depth of the side cabinets and desktop and provide additional storage without obstructing the smooth flow of the line for various functions.

Sustainability

The house boasts an impressive amount of natural lighting, strategically arranged by the designer to optimize its potential. This effectively minimizes the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours. Moreover, the entire space features energy-efficient LED track lights that can be easily adjusted to suit the owner's preferences. This allows for precise lighting placement, reducing the need for additional electric lights and thereby preventing unnecessary energy waste. Overall, this innovative approach effectively promotes energy savings and carbon reduction.
