Project Overview

Instead of offering a typical layout and functionalities, the vacation home boasts a refreshing touch of nature, light and surroundings. In this open layout abode, the house owners can enjoy a panoramic view. The spiral staircase allows an unimpeded view and enables sunlight to travel more easily throughout the space. Light wood tones and pure white color make the space soft and cozy.

Project Brief

Surrounded by lush greenery in the suburbs of Yilan, this vacation home is a place where house owners can recharge and unwind after busy days. To relieve stress from city life, low-saturation colors and materials make the space subdued. Greenery outside the window is the focal point, restoring the simple and pure life.

Project Need

With a beige base, the TV wall features marble and wood accents. The blank space lightens the visual weight of volumes and creates overlapping layers. The heavy center island creates a circular traffic flow. Besides, the enlarged center island allows the house owners to savor a cup of coffee, read a book, or cook a light meal. They can enjoy a wonderful time in the sun-bathed room. In the corner, the irregularly shaped space is equipped with a couch, making it a perfect spot for house owners to appreciate the view and rest.

Design Challenge

In the original layout, the staircase was located at the corner, which led to an awkward traffic flow and made the staircase look dark and claustrophobic. Therefore, the staircase is now moved to the center of the space. The cascading effect of sunlight, in a vertical movement, revives the interiors and dissolves the boundaries. The spiral staircase not only saves floor space but also adds a sense of elegance. The curved canopy oozes softness and echoes the elegant staircase.

Sustainability

The large windows welcome natural light and encourage fresh air from the outside to circulate freely. By using fewer home appliances, we can reduce our carbon footprint. All materials are made of safe and environmentally friendly green building materials to minimize harm to the human body. Besides, furniture and home appliances are made of durable and recyclable materials to avoid waste of resources.
