Project Overview

The Mid-level Sanctuary design embraces a contemporary aesthetic with a focus on creating a tranquil and elegant living environment for a retired young couple and their teenage child. The design style incorporates elements of minimalism and sophistication while accommodating the family's desire for display areas that seamlessly blend with the overall design.
Drawing inspiration from resort-style living, the interiors feature whitewashed timber panels and surfaces, exuding a sense of serenity and lightness. Various shades of beige and off-white paint colors enhance the overall ambiance, lending a soothing and harmonious atmosphere to the space. Additionally, a captivating marble feature wall adds artistic flair and depth to the color palette, serving as a focal point within the design.

Project Brief

Upon entering the apartment, a meticulously crafted semi-transparent screen, exuding a friendly aesthetic, assumes its position between the dining area and the foyer, serving as a subtle yet distinctive partitioning element that imbues the space with a unique personality.
The living and dining room unfolds before the eyes, offering an immediate appreciation of the captivating natural vistas beyond. The spatial configuration has been thoughtfully designed to create a panoramic effect, facilitating an abundance of natural daylight to flood the interior spaces, fostering a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding nature.
The corridor concealed behind a thoughtfully integrated door, which seamlessly blends with the conceal storage units. Vertical strips adorning the wooden paneling rhythmically conceal the storage and corridor entrance, harmoniously merging functionality with aesthetic appeal. An exquisite marble treatment graces both the dining wall and the TV wall, serving as the focal point of the space, boasting a captivating contrast against a dark wood strip feature. Positioned in between the living and dining areas, a carefully selected artwork garners attention, strategically placed against the backdrop of the dark wood strip, thereby elevating its prominence within the space.
To further enhance the living room, a bespoke glass display cabinet takes its position at the rear of the sofa. The cabinet features a reflective back panel and slender metal and leather shelves, imbues the living room with a sense of generosity and sophistication.

Project Need

We aimed to create a living space that transcended conventional residential design and offered unique features to meet the evolving needs of homeowners.
We implemented bespoke display cabinets throughout the residence, meticulously tailored to showcase each family member's individual collections. Seamlessly integrated into the design, these cabinets strike a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics, offering opportunities for self-expression and personalization. This approach enhancing the overall design while reflecting the occupants' identities and passions.

Design Challenge

In addition to prioritizing aesthetics, the design of this residence faced the task of meeting diverse functional needs of the family members. A key challenge involved maximizing functionality to cater to the requirements of the parents. To address this, a multi-function entertainment room was created to serve the child's needs, accommodating movie nights and karaoke sessions. Furthermore, a spacious display cabinet was incorporated to showcase the child's prized collection of animations and toys.
Upon entering the master bedroom, attention was drawn to a striking curved wall, adorned with fluted wood paneling that extended across the lower part of the room. A carefully positioned feature lounge chair welcomed occupants at the entrance, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Adjacent to the master bedroom, a dedicated walk-in closet was designed to meet the couple's storage needs. This room also featured a sizable display cabinet to showcase the wife's collection of leather items. Considerable attention was given to the spatial layout of this area, ensuring efficient use of space while accommodating various functions.
Given the diverse range of activities encompassing living, working, and leisure, the provision of proper acoustics was of utmost importance. Special consideration was given to achieving acoustic separation between rooms through thoughtful wall construction techniques. Additionally, acoustic absorption materials, such as fabric finishes, were employed to create a balanced and harmonious soundscape throughout the residence.

Sustainability

Sustainable design principles were carefully integrated throughout the project, with a focus on utilizing environmentally-friendly materials. We made sure to source materials from brands that prioritize responsible sourcing practices and minimize waste during manufacturing, resulting in a reduced overall environmental impact. To promote a healthier indoor environment, we opted for kid-friendly paint with low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The layout was thoughtfully designed to optimize the use of natural daylight, thereby reducing dependence on artificial lighting. By harnessing the power of natural light, we aimed to illuminate the spaces and create a bright and inviting atmosphere. Furthermore, both the lighting fixtures and blinds were integrated into a smart home system, allowing seamless control over solar gain. This intelligent system empowers users to effortlessly manage the amount of sunlight entering the space, minimizing the need for excessive air conditioning and reducing energy consumption.
Sustainability was at the forefront of the design process. Through the utilization of sustainable materials, maximization of natural daylight, and intelligent control systems, the design not only minimizes its environmental impact but also promotes a healthier and more energy-efficient living environment for the occupants.
