Project Overview

Halcyon is a futuristic murder mystery, set in 2040, that explores the dark side of Virtual Reality (VR) made for Syfy. The 15-part series includes 10 short-form episodes, interspersed with 5 interactive VR episodes that take you deeper into the story.
For the ultimate experience, the Halcyon VR app for Oculus Rift and GearVR contains all 15 episodes, allowing you to experience the show through an interactive 3D world and discover the evidence for yourself.

Project Brief

Halcyon is a hybrid series which means that it’s going to live on the web, in VR and in part on broadcast. Within the VR episodes the user will have agency to explore the world of the show on their own . The Halcyon VR App will include all 10 linear episodes and 5 additional VR episodes in which the user has the opportunity to assist the detectives with the case by exploring the crime scene, interact with evidence and ultimately become an active participant in solving the crime. In addition to the episodes the user can chose to view Halcyon’s Product Museum, a space where the fictional company’s history is presented through its various consumer products released between 2016-2040.

Project Need

Because Halcyon is a hybrid show, in addition to the episodes, we created exclusive VR bonus content to reward the hardcore VR users. The bonus content is a product museum for the fictional company of the show, designed to tap into the enthusiasm of the early adopters of technology - the most passionate group within our target audience. Designed and optimized specifically for the Oculus Rift and Gear VR users it is a high-end immersive experience that takes you further into the show and drives talkability and buzz across the the Syfy community.

User Experience

It's just 4 easy steps to the Halcyon VR App:

1. The user launches their Halcyon VR App
2. The user selects to launch the app or to change language
3. The user reads instructions
4. The user can choose from the carousel provided to view the product museum, linear episodes or VR episodes

Project Marketing

Halcyon App marketing has included:

•Oculus website where you can purchase the app for either Oculus rift or gear VR
•Social media: via our Facebook and YouTube: The Halcyon promotional clips (including 360 behind the scenes clips, mini documentaries and more) call to action points out to the viewer to continue watching the episodes in VR (using the Oculus Rift and VR Gear logos at the bottom) at the end of each
•AltSpaceVR Virtual International Press Junket

The Halcyon VR App does not need a log-in but it will only launch if the user is signed into their oculus app
