Project Brief

Offering specialized programs on-site and online through a $27.5 million state-of-the-art facility in South Yarra, CHES provides enrichment and extension opportunities to stretch and challenge students, expanding access to first-year university studies (Higher Education Studies).

Seesaw worked alongside Principal Stewart Milner and the Victorian School Board Authority (VSBA) to strategically position and craft a brand aligned with their mission to excite and develop the full intellectual, social, and emotional potential of high-achieving senior students within this purpose-built facility.

The result is an intelligent brand that grows and expands across spatial, digital, promotional, and printed touchpoints.

Project Innovation/Need

CHES directly responds to the Victorian government’s commitment to Excellence and Equity, including extension, acceleration and enrichment for high-ability students. It expands upon the state-wide Victorian High-Ability Program and the Victorian Challenge & Enrichment Series.

CHES fosters and inspires the full development of senior secondary students academically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. It is a catalyst for new ways of learning that bridge secondary school and tertiary education. CHES celebrates students' talents and strengths while providing them with a safe and stimulating space to extend their learning.

“High ability students are the next generation of leaders, problem solvers and innovators. Society as a whole will benefit from these students being given every opportunity to reach their full potential” — Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Gifted and Talented Education.

Seesaw worked closely with the project team to strategically position and brand this benchmark educational facility. The result is a defined voice and comprehensive visual brand created to speak clearly to multiple audiences — government, community, parents and students.

Design Challenge

The brief was to position and design a visual brand that complemented the award-winning, state-of-the-art architecture (Fieldwork and Brand Architects) while also aligning with the expectations of an extensive group of invested stakeholders which included members of the VSBA (Victorian School Board Authority), Founding Principal Stewart Milner, Melbourne High School Foundation and the CHES foundation network schools which included Melbourne Girls College, Mac Rob, Richmond High School and Prahran High School.

Effectiveness

On Tuesday, 18 October 2022, The Centre for Higher Education Studies was officially opened by the Minister for Education, Hon. James Merlino M.P., with students beginning Term One of 2023.

CHES is the first of its type to be delivered by the Victorian government. The resulting brand reflects this benchmark project, communicating clearly and evolving seamlessly across spatial, printed, and digital applications to firmly establish the school for the future.
