Project Overview

This particular construction, originally a semi-finished residence, was thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of an active and playful family. With a spacious 280 square meters of usable space, it provides ample room for comfortable living. Currently, it serves as the cozy abode of a married couple and their two young sons who are in elementary school and kindergarten, respectively. The house offers a welcoming and nurturing environment for the family to grow and create cherished memories together.

Project Brief

At the outset of the design process, the homeowner set forth a myriad of aspirations for the space. Foremost among those was the creation of an expansive and well-illuminated area for their children to frolic in. Equally important was the incorporation of four functional rooms into the design- a master bedroom, two children's rooms, and a study. Maintenance of the pre-existing three sets of bathrooms was also a top priority, as was the implementation of enhanced storage capabilities. Moreover, there was a keen desire to incorporate display areas throughout the space in order to showcase a variety of collections and their children's artwork as they mature and create memories as a family. Finally, the homeowner envisioned the use of a dynamic mix of building materials, vivid colors, and unique furniture and lighting to achieve a truly groundbreaking and exceptional design.

Project Need

The spatial arrangement was thoughtfully planned to reduce the necessity of relocating the three preexisting lavatories. In order to tackle the concern of the entrance and bathroom doors directly facing each other at the rear of the area, the group erected a gracefully curved passageway. This solution additionally contributed to establishing a more expansive and uncluttered atmosphere throughout the entirety of the space. As you enter the space, your eyes are immediately drawn to the sturdy glass tile wall that serves not only as a divider between the living room and study but also as a means of connecting the flow of movement while simultaneously softening the light that penetrates the tiles. The living room is further separated from the kitchen area by a transparent glass partition and a wooden barn door, which can be closed when cooking to prevent the spread of fumes.

Design Challenge

This space has been carefully planned and divided with virtual and real partitions that can function autonomously or be connected as required. The kitchen features abundant cooking space with impeccable cooking facilities, food and tea preparation areas, and wine counter cabinets. It is designed to connect the central island and dining table, providing flexible and varied routes for family use. The purpose of this design is to cater to the owner's frequent cooking habits, ensuring that every aspect of the space is functional and visually appealing.

Sustainability

In designing this residential space, our team's primary focus is to encourage more interactions among the users. We aim to achieve this by carefully arranging the relationship between different elements and materials in the space, while keeping in mind the homeowner's desired scale and vision for their future home. Our goal is to create a space that is not only functional, but also interesting and inspiring. We also prioritize environmental protection by incorporating external windows, glass tiles, and sliding glass doors in both public and private areas to allow natural light to flow freely and reduce the need for artificial lighting. This helps to achieve energy-saving and carbon reduction effects.
