Project Overview

The residential design project not only focuses on the artistic and functional aspects of the building but also incorporates the vital concept of environmental protection. The designers have surpassed the traditional methods of environmental preservation, which only include the use of eco-friendly building materials. They have creatively transformed numerous old or second-hand objects that were otherwise destined for the landfill into useful installations, elevating their functional value and extending their lifespan. This approach not only reduces waste but also adds character to the design, giving the space a unique and environmentally conscious appeal.

Project Brief

The residential design project not only focuses on the artistic and functional aspects of the building but also incorporates the vital concept of environmental protection. The designers have surpassed the traditional methods of environmental preservation, which only include the use of eco-friendly building materials. They have creatively transformed numerous old or second-hand objects that were otherwise destined for the landfill into useful installations, elevating their functional value and extending their lifespan. This approach not only reduces waste but also adds character to the design, giving the space a unique and environmentally conscious appeal.

Project Need

The designer used stone slabs, commonly found in lawns, as the wall design for the entryway and added the outline of linear lights to it. Inside the house, the designer incorporated various style elements, such as the owner's favorite Vespa motorcycles, brassware, collectibles, music, bar, and more, into the space, making it not only a resting place but also a space for art and culture. In the dining area, the designer disassembled an old Vespa motorcycle, retained the light function with a special technique, and allowed users to turn on the light source directly from the grip of the motorcycle to use it as a night light. The designer also transformed an old piano into a bookshelf, which not only echoes the owner's love of music but also adds functionality to the space. On the other side of the room, the designer cut up vintage leather suitcases, which the owner was going to throw away, and turned them into drawers, adding a touch of flavor and new value to the old objects.

Design Challenge

As one slowly moves towards the sitting area, one will notice that the designers have incorporated the owner's memories of the old house into the new space. This has helped to preserve the fond memories of the old days. The designers have used an ingenious idea of turning the old meter of the old house into a night light and wrapping the wires with copper tubes, giving every object a practical use rather than just being used as a decoration. With the lights turned on, the homeowners are transported back to the time they spent with their grandmothers when they were young, and all the good memories are brought back to life. Moving towards the sleeping area, one will notice that the designer has transformed the owner's long years of traveling abroad into space by using a custom-made leather suitcase as the bed design, which adds a touch of magic to the space. The designer has planned a small home bar to fulfill the owner's expectations. When the owner enters the area, it feels like they're walking into a bar from the 1960s, enjoying the intoxicating atmosphere of the space.

Sustainability

This residential design not only prioritizes storytelling, aesthetics, and functionality but also emphasizes environmental protection. The designers went beyond the usual methods of environmental protection, which typically involve the use of green building materials. Instead, they repurposed a large number of old objects that would have otherwise been discarded or sold as second-hand items. These objects were transformed into practical installations, thereby extending their life and giving them new functional value.
