SEEK DESIGN
Project Brief
The design of this case uses simple grey lattice walls and grey metal partitions, which retains the classical romance but also gives the restaurant a modernity in design concept, so that the heaviness and lightness of the restaurant runs through the overall design. The designer has added various types of utensils used by the ancient royal family, such as the auspicious beast, red cupboards, porcelain vases, food boxes and screens, to give a royal dining experience as if one were in the Forbidden City.
Project Innovation/Need
Despite its downtown location, the quietness of the restaurant is not disturbed by the noise of the roadside, and the moment you enter the corridor, you already have the serenity. As you walk through the corridor, you can see the inscriptions "HanLinXuan" and "HanMoXuan" at the entrance, which are by famous artists, the couplet "MeiLanZhuJu" and the exquisitely shaped beast. All gives rise to a reverie. The restaurant is charming not only because of its red walls and green tiles, but also because of its distinctive Hutong style. When one enters the Hutong corridor, which is covered by red walls and green tiles, one experiences a different kind of leisure and tranquillity in Beijing, and appreciates the elegance and slow life of the city.
Design Challenge
The challenge of this project was to create a relatively secluded dining space in the city, a space where you would feel like you had entered another world.
Sustainability
The use of local materials not only reduces costs and the energy consumption and dust pollution generated during the transportation; at the same time, it adds new thinking to the space, with the old memories of the original old wood and rough walls contrasting with the new spatial order, combining old and new time and space in an active and positive way. Here, the brick wall is both boundary and consensus, both separation and connection, both passage and otherworldly landscape and elegant picture frame, which perfectly bridges civilisation, art and life, past, present and future.
