Project Brief

SwingSesh is the only backyard playset on the market designed to engage the whole family by combining fitness features with play equipment. In addition to all the features kids love like swings, a slide, monkey bars, climbing ladder, and play deck, the SwingSesh also has strength and conditioning equipment like dip bars, pull-up bars, box jumps, a squat rack, and even the option to add a 15-ft climbing rope! Maintenance-free steel construction with a durable, UV-resistant, weather-resistant plastic coating.

SwingSesh equipment is in a league of its own in quality, durability, and functionality. The American-made, heavy-duty welded steel frame is designed to support kids and adults. The commercial-grade non-slip thermoplastic coating keeps it comfortable to the touch on even the hottest days. Stainless steel swing pendulums provide the best corrosion protection. The slides are rotomolded, not the single layer of plastic you find on most imported sets, so mom and dad can slide too! A SwingSesh provides unparalleled longevity and low maintenance along with the added functionality for adult fitness.

A SwingSesh isn't a little kid playset that they'll grow out of in a few years. It integrates features for kids of all ages. As they grow up and get involved in sports, they'll have a complete home gym in the backyard to make it easy to be competitive and at the top of their game.

Project Innovation/Need

By combining adult fitness and children’s play, SwingSesh creates an environment that pulls everyone together to be active together. Kids don’t need more gimmicky features, toys, or ‘stuff’. They crave more engagement. More time with mom and dad, with grandparents, and with loved ones. Being a part of your work. Watching, mimicking, learning, growing stronger while learning about perseverance and persistence.

Finding products that truly align the needs of parents and children is rare, but SwingSesh does just that by allowing parents a convenient way to achieve their fitness goals, stay family-oriented, and be a great role model for their kids. And what gym could be more convenient than your own backyard? There’s no commute, no babysitter, no getting ready, no need to get up early or stay up late; just put on the tennis shoes and workout!

Design Challenge

The challenge was to meet the rigorous fitness needs of adults while maintaining a safe environment for children’s play. With a careful consideration of safety guidelines, SwingSesh meets the best of both worlds: it can (quite literally) handle the weights while making sure the kids have a safe space to hang, slide, jump, and explore.

Another important design consideration was to ensure the set was modular to fit different sites and various needs. Features of the set such as the slide, monkey bars, and swings can be attached in various configurations. This customization is available out of the box; no additional parts needed. This provides users the maximum adaptability; if the family moves to a new location, the set can be configured in a different way to work best in the new space. The set can also be built up over time as your family grows – or features can be removed when no longer needed. For example, one might start with the SimpleSesh model that offers a complete outdoor home gym, and then when you have kids, the play deck, swings, and slide can be added on.

Sustainability

Most wood playsets don’t last long – after a few short years they end up as an eyesore that you can’t even give away or it ends up in a heap on the burn pile. Cheap plastic accessories fade and rot after just a couple years (and did the kids really ever look at that little plastic telescope anyway?). With SwingSesh, our aim was to design a long-lasting, high-quality playset that the whole family finds utility in. A product that lasts, both in quality and utility, is truly sustainable.

SwingSesh is constructed of heavy-duty steel and bolts together for simple DIY installation. The durable, UV-resistant, weather-resistant plastic coating makes it relatively maintenance-free – not need to spend time and resources re-staining every year. The modularity and ability to move the set to a new location allow the set to grow with your family – heck, this thing will probably be around for the grandkids to play on!
