Project Overview

Infused with museum inspirations, this dwelling marries Chinese landscape's poetry with pure white, reshaping life through art. Delving into the aesthetic synchrony in life's subtleties, and through symphonic elements, the design embodies the charm of international art repositories. Harmonizing Oriental and Occidental aesthetics, the design mirrors the occupant's Taiwanese-American trajectory, sculpting a modern sanctum of Eastern allure.

This transformation is further enhanced by the butterfly effect of design—a catalyst that redefines luxury and sketches a vibrant lifestyle aesthetic for those who appreciate fine living. From bespoke bathroom styles to art-adorned living spaces, the design interlaces artistic lines, textures, and adornments, imbuing the home with soul.

Through the intervention of art, domestic spaces metamorphose into curated exhibits, where the museum-like aura is seamlessly weaved into the tapestry of daily life. In a harmony-infused tableau, diverse elements blend, mirroring global gallery traits and elegance within the home space. Art thus reshapes life's perception, rendering each mundane detail irresistibly intriguing.

Project Brief

Infused indoors is marble with Eastern landscape imagery, creating a delicate texture akin to landscape paintings. This space is adorned with Eastern colored-glaze art pieces from a Taiwanese brand, combined with light fixtures akin to art pieces, and Oriental bird-and-floral wallpapers handcrafted by French artisans, a contemporary dwelling boasting Eastern aesthetics is born.

The public areas, underscored by a pure white tone, accentuate the elegant form and lines of artworks. With subdued furniture and decor, the natural material textures and low color saturation demonstrate a harmonious inside-out design philosophy. The study, living room, and dining area are arranged along a longitudinal axis to maintain the continuity of public spaces. The open layout integrates movement paths, preserving ample living space and excellent scenic views, ensuring every area offers a stunning view.

Project Innovation/Need

Regard for inhabitants as pivotal subjects is maintained, tailoring individualistic bedrooms and bathroom spaces for each user. A harmonious coexistence of rationality and emotionality is hence achieved, facilitating the realization of an idyllic lifestyle.

The main bedroom features an Oriental flora and fauna wallpaper theme, hand-painted by French craftsmen, embodying the beauty of the East within contemporary life. The pairing with sophisticated and classic décor and artworks enhances an aura of understated luxury. In the girl's room, feather-shaped formations grace the walls. The soft hues of blue depict a buoyant, cloud-like panorama. A room facing the woodland, imbued with a potent vacation aura, evokes a sense of tranquility and delight.

Bathroom spaces are adorned with black, slip-resistant and wear-resistant floor tiles. Their exquisite natural textures echo the main theme. A landscape painting created using glossy mosaic tiles within the shower area illustrates the fusion of Eastern and contemporary styles. An illuminated oval vanity mirror brightens the main bathroom nights, mirroring the outside night scenery. It evokes the feeling of residing in a vacation resort, enabling the indulgence of a luxurious bathroom space and the enjoyment of supreme relaxation.

Design Challenge

Taking cues from museum aesthetics, the design challenge was to incorporate elements of Chinese landscape's poetry into a pure white canvas, all while reflecting the essence of the inhabitant's Taiwanese-American journey. The task was to artfully transfigure everyday living, by giving it a sense of museum-like grandeur and bridging the gap between the Eastern and Western design ideals. Curating bedrooms with personalized designs and immersive art-inspired living spaces presented an ambitious endeavor. The challenge lay in creating a balance between the Oriental tranquility and modern luxury, without compromising the ease and functionality of the space. Each corner was to be an echo of a global gallery, while being attuned to the mundane rhythms of daily life.

Sustainability

In addition to aesthetic considerations, an environmentally conscious approach was of paramount importance. The use of durable, slip-resistant floor tiles in bathrooms was a nod to this commitment. Not only does this choice ensure longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements, but it also addresses safety concerns. The rooms, with their strategic positions facing the woodland, maximize natural light, reducing reliance on artificial lighting, and consequently, energy consumption.

The interiors featuring marble with Eastern landscape imagery and delicate, natural textures, are demonstrative of an inside-out design philosophy that respects and corresponds with the natural environment. This respect for nature was also demonstrated through the use of handmade materials, like the French artisan-crafted wallpaper, reducing the carbon footprint associated with mass-produced items. Through these mindful choices, the design not only sketches a new luxury but also echoes a commitment to environmental sustainability.
