Project Overview
The site is a new apartment. The project is named “Sunshine Chanson” since the site has excellent lighting and French style decor. The designer took white as the base and embellished it with a brown tone to form a cozy look. As a retirement home, it serves two people only. Its scale is large, and for visitors on weekends, the functionality is critical. Given this, the core of the project is to plan the layout properly.
The open plan shows the spaciousness of the site. Natural lighting illuminates the interior, and the screen in the foyer and wooden louvers in the second bedroom serve as the boundaries. No matter the couple or the entire family can enjoy the perfect home.

Project Brief
Daylight is the protagonist in this low-key luxury style. It leads the delicate design on the wall, such as lines, materials, and color blocks, and reveals the layers through light and shadow. The TV wall is composed of unequal lines and grilles, which conceal a large amount of storage space inside the TV wall and make the vision more consistent. The project breaks the layout and accommodates daylight to convey the continuity of space.
In the dining area, the carpet design is flexible with modeling tiles, and the walls are covered with stone panels with coffee gold. People can deeply experience the pleasure of being surrounded by beauty while cooking. The master bedroom features a romantic white minimalist closet with gold handles, while the arched dressing space is elegant. The bed is highlighted with wallpaper, combined with a classic half-circle pink fabric wall.
Project Innovation/Need
The site is a new apartment, and depending on the context, the number of people will increase or decrease. To serve more people, the designer created an open plan for the desk and the second bedroom. Folding windows and sliding doors redefine the social area, while the desk combines with the function of the couch to accommodate more people when facing the TV wall. For example:
Entrance:
The entrance is made of crystal-crystallized beige stone combined with a trim door and titanium-plated metal that symbols prestige and moru glass. In addition to dividing the space, it also creates a sense of penetration and extends the view.
Second bedroom and desk:
The flexible second bedroom can be used to separate social and private areas depending on the number of people being served. Wooden louvered folding windows and the white sliding door form a separate private area when fully retracted. The desk behind the sofa incorporates the couch, while the underside serves as storage. With a projection screen, the family can enjoy quality time on the sofa or in the couch area.
Design Challenge
In the limited area, the space must satisfy the comfort of two people in daily life as well as the convenience of multiple gatherings. In addition, not wanting to waste the beautiful light, the designer paid a lot of effort to consider the layout to make the limited space show more possibilities. In order to do so, the designer gave the partition a "storage" function, allowing flexibility for the social area and the bedroom, as well as arranging multiple themes for a single area. When the children come to visit, the couch behind the sofa provides more seating for the family to enjoy quality time.
Sustainability
The open plan of the social area allows for natural light. Meanwhile, the adjustable organza curtains and wood blinds keep the space bright and spacious while keeping the temperature comfortable.
In terms of ventilation, in addition to the open plan, there is no large blockage between the front and back balconies, plus the sliding door of the second bedroom helps the circulation of indoor air when it is opened.
Finally, the building materials. The large-area color blocks are non-toxic, skin-friendly, formaldehyde odor-free eco-friendly latex paint to provide the client with a harmless life.
