Project Innovation/Need

SASA connects Chinese seniors who live in Sydney, family, friends and the community to support in building a sustainable vision and active life. A valued life includes strong social networks providing an opportunity for people to meet with others, form friendships and learn about services that are available to them.

We encourage the fostering of bonds between older people and young people in the Chinese community. We have developed a range of programmes and initiatives to help seniors remain connected in the community and positively promote a healthy social interactive network.

SASA offers its members and seniors in the Chinese community a variety of activities to enhance their wellbeing from the perspective of body, mind, health and spirit by providing recreational & leisure activities, event participation, health seminars and Tai Chi classes.

Our members and seniors in the Chinese community interact and raise the awareness of seniors social wellbeing. We have introduced service suppliers through sponsorship, these partnerships help increase and strengthen the bonds of friendship between people, whether they are individuals, or people within groups, networks, or organisations.

Design Challenge

Australian's aging population is increasing and there is a growing number of elderly who are becoming disconnected with society. In our busy society, we don't often pause to applaud and appreciate our elders who have had such a positive impact on our lives. More specifically we are finding that our non-English speaking migrants are struggling with integration into society as their adult children’s family, work and life becomes more demanding. Our Chinese seniors are gradually experiencing this social problem.

We recognise that one’s wellbeing is central to a positive outcome. At SASA, we bring together the resources and the people power to provide services and opportunities that enhance one's quality of life and wellbeing. We encourage the fostering of bonds between older people and young people in the community.

Future Impact
