Project Brief
The brief required the design team to visit every part of the dwelling; each space required approaching as one part of the whole, as well a design response for each space:
Public areas, donned in pure white, emphasize the elegant form and lines of artwork. Complementing natural material textures with low-saturation furniture embodies a cohesive inside-out design ethos. Arranging the study, living room, and dining area along a longitudinal axis ensures continuity of public spaces. Through an open approach that integrates movement paths, abundant living space, and splendid scenic views are preserved, allowing every area to boast its unique picturesque view.
Bedrooms unveil Oriental beauty and tranquil ambience through tasteful decoration. Bathrooms, adorned with luxurious details, echo the theme with ink-painting-like stone textures, constructing pointillistic landscapes in the shower area using glossy mosaic tiles, thus showcasing a fusion of Eastern and modern styles.
The bathroom follows suit with textured, non-slip, wear-resistant black tiles. The shower room assembles a landscape painting through glossy mosaic tiles, showcasing the fusion of Eastern and modern styles. The oval vanity mirror, adorned with lighting, illuminates the main bathroom at night, reflecting the outside night view. This gives an impression of residing in an upscale vacation hotel daily, indulging in the luxury of the bathroom space, and fostering an atmosphere for uninhibited relaxation.
Design orchestrates the butterfly effect within the space, inspiring individuals to rethink their lifestyle practices. It caters to those who understand the essence of a beautiful life, interpreting personal styles through a vibrant lifestyle aesthetic, and sketching a unique silhouette of new luxury.
Project Need
The client is at the heart of the design, tailoring individual bedrooms and bathroom spaces for each user. A harmonious coexistence of rationality and emotionality is hence achieved, facilitating the realization of an idyllic lifestyle.
The main bedroom features an Oriental flora and fauna wallpaper theme, hand-painted by French craftsmen, embodying the beauty of the East within contemporary life. The pairing with sophisticated and classic décor and artworks enhances an aura of understated luxury. In the girl's room, feather-shaped formations grace the walls. The soft hues of blue depict a buoyant, cloud-like panorama. A room facing the woodland, imbued with a potent vacation aura, evokes a sense of tranquillity and delight.
Bathroom spaces are adorned with black, slip-resistant and wear-resistant floor tiles. Their exquisite natural textures echo the main theme. A landscape painting created using glossy mosaic tiles within the shower area illustrates the fusion of Eastern and contemporary styles. An illuminated oval vanity mirror brightens the main bathroom nights, mirroring the outside night scenery. It evokes the feeling of residing in a vacation resort, enabling the indulgence of a luxurious bathroom space and the enjoyment of supreme relaxation.
Artistic adornments, lines, and textures weave art into life, infusing the home with soul.
Design Challenge
Taking cues from museum aesthetics, the design challenge was to incorporate elements of Chinese landscape poetry into a pure white canvas, all while reflecting the essence of the inhabitant's Taiwanese-American journey. The task was to artfully transfigure everyday living by giving it a sense of museum-like grandeur and bridging the gap between Eastern and Western design ideals. Curating bedrooms with personalized designs and immersive art-inspired living spaces presented an ambitious endeavour. The challenge lay in creating a balance between Oriental tranquillity and modern luxury without compromising the ease and functionality of the space. Each corner was to be an echo of a global gallery while being attuned to the mundane rhythms of daily life.
Sustainability
In addition to aesthetic considerations, an environmentally conscious approach was of paramount importance. The use of durable, slip-resistant floor tiles in bathrooms was a nod to this commitment. Not only does this choice ensure longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements, but it also addresses safety concerns. The rooms, with their strategic positions facing the woodland, maximize natural light, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and energy consumption.
The interiors featuring marble with Eastern landscape imagery and delicate, natural textures are demonstrative of an inside-out design philosophy that respects and corresponds with the natural environment. This respect for nature was also demonstrated through the use of handmade materials, like the French artisan-crafted wallpaper, reducing the carbon footprint associated with mass-produced items. Through these mindful choices, the design sketches a new luxury and echoes a commitment to environmental sustainability.
