Project Overview

The name "Autumn Maple" comes from the hostess’ name the word "(maple)". The owner used it as an inspiration for the project name to symbolize the residence as a place where family time is spent, revealing his love for family.
The dismantling of the character "(maple)" echoes the project. The Chinese word is a combination of "wood" and "wind". The outdoor scene is undoubtedly a feature of the project. The flooring, wood, stone, and mineral paint allow natural elements to blend seamlessly into the various living scenes.
Unlike the owner's choice of dark colors in most areas, the kitchen is furnished with the hostess’ favorite blue.
The space gives an impression of hotel-like grandeur and style. The hotel-style bathroom design allows for total relaxation. The open social area brings family members closer and meets the owner's hospitality needs. The interior design maximizes the accommodation of guests while providing the comfort and convenience of home.

Project Brief

The soft comfort is the intimacy of life. The owner's love for his family can be seen in all the details of the design. The owner believes that children need to be accompanied in their growth, so there is no desk in the children's private area and they can do their homework and study in the open study room, with their parents’ accompany in the living room. In the social area, each family member has his or her own space, which further enhances the emotional connection between them.
To satisfy the children's preference for nature, outdoor elements have been added to the home. Reversing the closeness of the interior, wood, and stone with an open plan makes the space look spacious.
Whether adults or children, after a long day out, they all want to have a good rest when they return home. The hotel-style décor and lighting design create a deeply relaxing atmosphere. The dark colors of the objects give the impression of a hotel, while the wooden elements add the warmth of a home, both of which are perfectly matched to create the owner's ideal home.

Project Need

-Horizontal Design Expanding Space
The project is a renovation of an old apartment. The ceiling height of the site was only 270 centimeters, and the installation of the suspended design lowered the height by 40 centimeters. In the end, the lowest point in the ceiling is only 220cm high. To avoid oppression, the designer widened the long corridor to 100cm wide and expanded the space horizontally.
The irregular arrangement of the grille cabinets in the social area resembles plants, echoing the natural elements in the house. In addition to maximizing the horizontal vision, the designer used glass to enhance transparency.
-Harmonious Sensory Experience through Color Matching
The rest of the materials match the darker colors preferred by the owner. The walls are covered with light-colored paints with textures to show the variability.
The wood veneer adds warmth to the home and balances the heaviness of the dark stone.

Design Challenge

Lighting is a major challenge. Each room has a balcony, but the depth of the balcony would block a large portion of the natural light, limiting it to the semi-outdoor area. The designer used a large area of floor-to-ceiling windows to make the interior bright with natural light.
In the choice of curtains, the designer installed curtains with a shading rate of about 50% to facilitate natural lighting.

Sustainability

Based on the concept of environmental protection, the designer used environmentally friendly materials to create this project. Furniture covered with wood veneer replaces solid wood objects to minimize the negative impact on the environment.
Regarding ventilation, the designer changed the layout so that each space, including the toilet, has a window to ensure air circulation. The flexible design of the air outlets of the ceiling-type air-conditioner and the evenness of the airflow makes it possible to adjust the indoor airflow.
The open plan, such as an open study room, is spacious and allows for good lighting to minimize electrical consumption. Large floor-to-ceiling windows allow sunlight to extend into the house to maximize natural light. Semi-shading curtains provide flexibility for adjustment.
