Project Brief
A new brand direction and stored design that expresses the ultimate customer experience for eye health, optometry services, frame selection, sunglasses, and contact lenses. The new design focuses on and places the customer at the center of the experience. The store design reflects the customer journey from the initial eye test, frame selection, and frame fitting. The store design is to be inspired by the creation of a visually open optometry experience. Customers can see into semiprivate optometry rooms, enabling a clear vision of the well-being experience and equipment. The design allows for modern, contemporary, and well-lit retail wall displays that showcase a wide selection of brands.
Project Innovation/Need
The new store design focuses on the interplay of materials under the value proposition set by the 1001 Optometry brand strategy ‘Details are Beautiful’. Framing elements to the optometry rooms, fluted glass edge-lit shopfront panels, and mirrors balanced with the homely warm oak finish timber joinery of retail wall displays and the optometry room walls. The store design must be adaptable across multiple locations and size formats, expressing consistent brand, customer experience, and product ranges.
Design Challenge
The new design strategy places Optometry at the core of the customer experience, celebrating and showcasing the optometry rooms and technical equipment. The optometry rooms feature glazed walls, allowing customers to view the testing rooms. The interior is designed with oak timber walls, adjustable LED lighting, and closable curtains, offering flexibility for private consultations if desired. This adaptable design ensures that the customer's preferences are always considered, providing a sense of reassurance.
The strength and consistency of the design must be high to enable design approvals across the multiple landlord shopping centre design approval process.
Build costs are currently a challenge, and balancing timeless, contemporary design with cost-effective, durable materials is a high priority.
Sustainability
The materials specified in the project are all sourced from commercial suppliers engaged in sensible and environmentally focused processes. A large portion of the material for the joinery is sourced from Laminex. Laminex timber products are hard-wearing and durable. They have low VOC and are sourced from sustainable forest management practices.
The open ceiling design not only creates a sense of spaciousness but also accentuates the height within the space, eliminating the need for unnecessary materials like the plasterboard ceiling. This, combined with the use of dimmable and controllable LED lighting throughout the store design, promises an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment for our customers.
Controlled measures were used by the shopfitter, practicing sensible waste management practices, and the landlord team.
