Project Brief

The design team selected natural materials and warm tones, using simple lines and detailed decorations to create a warm and exotic space. The warm-toned plaster walls combined with natural wood textures provide a visual sense of warmth while enhancing the texture and layering of the space. For furniture, simple modern black metal chairs and wooden tables were chosen, which are both aesthetically pleasing and durable. The hollow red brick wall serves not only as a visual focal point but also as a space divider, enhancing the overall sense of layering and transparency of the space.
The arched partition wall in the center of the restaurant is a major highlight of the design. This wall provides a unique curved aesthetic and effectively separates different functional areas. The arch design increases the flow and layering of the space, adding a touch of classical elegance to the entire restaurant. The carefully selected textures and materials of the wall coordinate with the overall design style, standing out without being obtrusive.
The shopfront design uses glass windows and doors that match the original building's facade, ensuring ample natural light, making the interior bright and open, and creating an inviting environment. The introduction of natural light not only saves energy but also highlights the prominent "RIA" lettering wall decoration, reinforcing brand recognition and serving as a visual focal point to attract customers' attention.

Project Innovation/Need

Given its location among office buildings in Sydney's CBD, RIA Restaurant's design needs to create a dining space that combines modernity with traditional Indonesian culture in a culturally inclusive city center. Additionally, the design must consider the durability and ease of maintenance of the furniture, as well as how to effectively use natural light to enhance the brightness and openness of the space. The design must also focus on brand recognition to ensure the restaurant is visually distinctive and attractive.

Design Challenge

The design process may face challenges, such as finding a balance between modern and traditional elements to ensure the design is neither too modern, losing cultural characteristics, nor too traditional, appearing outdated. The diverse cultural appeal should attract young people without being so traditional that it deters passersby unfamiliar with it. Additionally, how to reasonably utilize natural light and ensure uniform indoor lighting is another issue to address. Finally, ensuring that the selected materials meet design needs while being durable and easy to maintain is also a significant challenge.

Sustainability

In the design of RIA Restaurant, the design team emphasizes the use of sustainable materials. Furniture is selected with natural wood textures, which are both beautiful and environmentally friendly. The hollow red brick wall and bamboo woven pendant lights are made of renewable materials, reducing environmental impact. The plaster material used on the walls is also eco-friendly, reducing the use of chemicals. Moreover, the extensive use of natural light not only saves energy but also reduces dependence on artificial lighting. The use of these sustainable materials not only meets modern environmental requirements but also further enhances the natural and comfortable feel of the restaurant.
