Project Brief
Our clients were coming home after living in London for 7 years with their two young daughters and wanted to walk back into their Sydney home, furnished and finished. The brief was to furnish and soften the spaces and address the overgrown gardens with fresh planting and accent lighting. We designed inviting, interiors to compliment the home’s existing architecture and expand the liveable floor area, creating lush green backdrops for the adjacent interiors. Storage was a priority, as was maximizing the available space with comfortable seating for quiet moments and time together. We custom-designed furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, art, and accessories in earthy tones and textures to add layers of comfort and character to the rooms.
Project Innovation/Need
A whimsical playroom and bedrooms for the family’s young daughters transform ordinary rooms into extraordinary spaces for curious and creative minds with fanciful wallpapers and decorative touches to surprise and delight.
The playroom boasts generous and flexible storage for books, games, and school bags with space for homework, legos, and art.
A home study is warm and inviting with earthy tones and textures.
New joinery was introduced in the living room and playroom to complement existing cabinetry throughout with polished and practical storage for everyday living.
Window treatments were introduced to soften existing glazing and frame garden views.
Decorative and architectural lighting was added throughout for warmth and character.
Contemporary aesthetics sits comfortably within the heritage context with clean lines and cozy layers of natural materials, earthy tones, and textures.
Design Challenge
Working with pieces of existing furniture we were tasked with making them work in the spaces in a new and fresh way. The clients were based in London for the duration of the project so managing communication and coordination of works presented fresh challenges.
“We couldn’t be happier with how everything has come together. It’s amazing – absolutely amazing - you more than met the brief. You have a terrific knack for reading us as a family and knowing exactly what works for us. We love the neutral colors which are so calming – the open and uncluttered style. It’s very warm yet practical. We can’t thank you enough – we love everything you have done and trust you and your team implicitly.” Client
Sustainability
The project addresses contemporary sustainability imperatives through its fundamental design approach and key features.
Careful integration of the existing built form and its extended landscape creates a holistic environment that promotes physical and mental well-being and encourages a sustainable lifestyle.
Smart spatial planning maximizes the original floor area for practical storage and luxurious everyday living, avoiding unnecessary expansion and reducing resource consumption.
Custom furniture was designed and commissioned throughout to create unique, heirloom pieces that complement collected antiques and travel treasures. This approach emphasizes the importance of artisan craftsmanship and reconditioned keepsakes, reducing the environmental impact of mass-produced items.
A timeless selection of quality fixtures and fittings ensures the enduring sustainability of the home for generations to come.
Overall, the project demonstrates a thoughtful and holistic approach to sustainability through its design and execution.
