As the national industry services organisation, Dairy Australia works towards shaping a profitable and sustainable dairy industry by providing services that benefit and advance dairy farm businesses and the industry.

Dairy Australia, as part of its digital strategy, aimed to consolidate their consumer and education sites into a single destination. The new community website is designed to educate the public on the role of dairy in nutrition, sustainability, and the industry’s broader impact, while enhancing the experience of its diverse audience that includes consumers, educators, healthcare professionals, and job seekers.

Project Brief

The brief was to design a website for a broad audience with varying needs: teachers, students, job seekers, healthcare professionals and anyone interested in the health and culinary benefits of dairy.
Students needed a fun, engaging experience that encouraged longer site visits, interacting with learning resources and online diary games. While adults, particularly teachers and professionals, require clear navigation and access to credible educational resources.

At the same time, the design needed to be modern and fresh, reflecting Dairy Australia's brand while ensuring consistency across all digital and print touchpoints, and resonating with the site's audiences.

Project Need

The Dairy Australia community website represents a contemporary approach to how an agricultural industry engages with its diverse community. Designed and launched with a fresh strategic blueprint, the website is more than just an information hub. It’s an intuitive, tailored experience serving everyone from health professionals to teachers, students, job seekers, and everyday dairy consumers.

What sets the website apart is its ability to merge multiple audience needs into a unified, engaging user experience. Complex topics, such as sustainability initiatives, animal welfare, and health benefit,s are simplified into accessible, interactive formats suited for each audience group, including games, curriculum-aligned educational resources, vibrant videos and inspiring imagery.

Its modern, mobile-first design ensures inclusivity and broad reach, while a simple information architecture makes browsing effortless. The prominent mega menu ensures clear, intuitive navigation, guiding each audience group seamlessly to their intended destination. Visitors can easily explore the site by persona or interest, enabling it to dynamically surface relevant, credible content that promotes trust and transparency in the dairy industry.

The community website empowers Australians to connect, learn, and participate, whether addressing important topics such as sustainability and health, or simply for the joy of discovering recipes, careers, and the stories behind Australian dairy.

User Experience

The goal was to create a modern, engaging platform that could meet the needs of diverse audience groups & handle complex topics with care, all while staying true to Dairy Australia’s brand.

Core challenges included:
-Understanding Diverse Audiences
Audiences range from health professionals, teachers, students, job seekers and everyday consumers. Each group has different expectations, levels of knowledge and ways they engage with online content. Designing a single platform that serves all users without becoming cluttered or confusing was a key challenge.

-Simplifying Complex Topics
The dairy industry encompasses complex & occasionally sensitive subjects like sustainability, animal welfare & health. The platform had to enable Dairy Australia to share factual, transparent information in a clear, engaging way to build trust without overwhelming users.

-Balancing Serious and Fun Content
The website had to address important topics yet also inspire & delight users (recipes, stories and careers pages). Achieving the right balance between informative & enjoyable content required careful planning & thoughtful design choices.

-Bringing the Brand to Life Digitally
A vibrant, contemporary aesthetic was developed to enhance its online presence while still aligning with offline brand collateral. This cohesive visual approach helps attract new audiences while preserving the trust & familiarity valued by existing stakeholders.

Overcoming these challenges has resulted in a website that’s modern, inclusive & engaging. The visual design balances warmth and credibility, while responsive components ensure a seamless experience. The result is a friendly, accessible platform that makes it easier for people to connect with Dairy Australia’s content.

Project Marketing

The project followed a robust, user-centred design process aligned with Dairy Australia’s strategic goals. It began with persona experience mapping to understand distinct user groups & journeys, shaping both functionality and content style. These insights informed information architecture, creating a purposeful content hierarchy and clear pathways for users to find what they need quickly and confidently.

Visual and interaction directions were explored through design research and moodboarding, aligning stakeholders early and building a strong creative foundation. A scalable design system of reusable components was developed that ensured visual consistency, usability, and accessibility across the website. Flexible page templates and clear content governance tools empowered Dairy Australia’s teams to manage and grow the website over time.

Outcomes achieved:
Digital Channel Enhancement-A refreshed, modern platform that supports Dairy Australia’s marketing strategy and campaign goals, reinforcing the website as the organisation’s primary digital channel.

Content & Brand Governance - Structured template designs, detailed design documentation, and best-practice examples have enabled efficient content creation, while maintaining brand standards.

Empowered Internal Teams - Dairy Australia now has the tools and templates to confidently manage and evolve the website, supporting ongoing agility and cost-effectiveness in digital operations.

Improved Discoverability & Engagement - Clear, purposeful language and audience-focused content improve search visibility, simplify navigation, and deliver engaging, tailored experiences.
