Project Brief

Having been out of use since the 1960s, the wharves are one of the last undeveloped riverside patches in Brisbane. The site make-over has been long-awaited and hopes to rejuvenate the Howard Smith Wharves site to create a bustling and exciting new hotspot for central Brisbaine.

Project Innovation/Need

The renovation plans include a 164-room Art Series hotel, with an eclectic mix of restaurants and cafes, as well as a 1,500 square-metre public exhibition space intended to host cultural and food events, an octagonal bar suspended beneath the Story Bridge, and the adaptive reuse of two existing heritage building which will house high-end hospitality offerings. The various elements of the complex will stretch along the length of the disused Howard Smith Warves.

In total, the site occupies 3.43 hectares. 80% of this will be dedicated to public space, including pedestrian and cycling connections and parkland.
