Project Brief
The project draws inspiration from the movie Tenet. Taking the time-space cracks as the design concept, it creates a story-based car trading market, tells stories with the space, rather than just staying in the visual presentation, to make the space more interesting and full of vitality. By integrating the automobile culture history, business operation, and technology resources, the designer brings a "car museum-style" experience to consumers, completely breaking the stereotype of second-hand car stores.
Project Innovation/Need
In this project, the designer makes good use of the existing resources to keep the large area of porcelain veneer of the original building facade, and properly close the open-edge styling lines of the renovated part of the building facade. The textured steel structure of the original building is preserved, allowing "the past and the present to coexist", highlighting the contrast between the old and new materials, to form a visual impact. The preservation and renovation of the original building can not only maximize the cost control, but also highlight the concept of sustainable development, and reflect the designer's respect for the original building.
Design Challenge
The ceiling hanging ring modeling above the atrium information desk is the highlight of the design. The masonry square bars hidden behind the background cabinet support the keel, and the steel truss structure inside the shape transfers the gravity to the ground to ensure the firmness and stability of the modeling. At the same time, it forms an interesting echo with the wall and commodity shelf of the space.
Sustainability
Due to the restrictions of the original building and limited cost, the design adopts the transformation idea of replacing "demolition" with "repair". Firstly, due to the heat and energy circulation system, the building cannot use air conditioning in the large space case. The designer adopts the methods of opening holes on the building facades and adding mechanical exhaust fans to the canopy parapets to achieve the effect of air circulation and cooling, and reduce the consumption of resources and energy.
