Project Overview

Easy Factory's global headquarters in Hong Kong exemplifies the hallmarks of the Modern French Garden concept. The design fulfills the client's brief to reflect its French backing, and human-centered culture, and create a unified space that fosters collaboration, inspires creativity, and improves the productivity of its creative and innovation team.

The design concept interpreted the brand through the kaleidoscope of nature by contrasting the juxtaposition of geometric and organic forms of a French Garden. It fuses aesthetics and functionality to create an inspiring space that drives the engagement and well-being of employees.

Project Brief

The geometric aesthetics of the feature wall and wood flooring create an inviting entrance. The factory-like gridded glass brick wall with an illuminated map of France symbolizes the company's systematic production line and visionary French investment into the world of Easy Factory.

Overlooking the generous Seaview of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, the floor-to-ceiling windows allow maximum natural light to flood the core of the interior. The gridded glass partitions define working spaces and promote transparency and collaboration that transcend departmental boundaries. Custom-made rectangular LED light grids extend throughout the workspace, seamlessly merging aesthetics with functionality. Nature-inspired carpet mimics the soothing textures of pebbles and grass flowing through.

Project Innovation/Need

The streamlined open space directs the gaze towards a visual anchor in organic form, an intentional contrast to the geometric design elements. It serves as the nucleus around which all workspaces orbit. This centerpiece features a horseshoe-shaped bar and a “Tree of Life” towering on an illuminated oak platform. The tree trunk, an up-cycled material from a fallen tree, is adorned with white leaves that cascade from the ceiling. TV screens aesthetically encase the tree and showcase Easy Factory’s 24-hour real-time production in its China factory, to fortify the company’s energetic rhythm, and motivate the creative and innovation team as they see their designed products come to life.

The bar features an illuminated resin art installation, emitting a soothing blue glow reminiscent of a tranquil river. Perpetually flowing water fountains positioned at each end of the "river" inspire the constant regeneration of employees' creativity.

The multi-purpose bar fuses ergonomics and practicability, serving as hidden storage space, and an artistic platform for staff to brainstorm creative ideas and for corporate functions.

Design Challenge

The project coincided with the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, which presented some significant supply chain disruptions in materials ordering. Despite these obstacles, we successfully maintained the project schedule by quickly adapting our sourcing strategy to prioritize local suppliers and manufacturers.

With the implementation of social distancing measures and lockdowns during the pandemic, our design and project management team have had to transition to remote work and have restricted access to the project site, which limits the ability to carry out site surveys and checks. However, we effectively overcame these challenges by employing meticulous planning and clear communication.

To ensure the project's success, we provided our site contractors with precise and comprehensive instructions through detailed drawings. We also established a consistent and efficient line of communication through frequent video conferencing, allowing us to closely monitor progress and address any concerns promptly. This approach ensured that our design vision was effectively translated into the final outcome.

Sustainability

Biophilia and green design formed the basis of the design narrative to create a human-centric interior. Nature-inspired features and an open layout all contribute to the well-being of the users. Green materials included the up-cycled tree trunk and glass materials predominantly utilized due to sustainability and recyclable nature.

Besides, we prioritized energy usage efficiency within the project by incorporating glass walls. These transparent partitions not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also harness the power of natural daylight, reducing reliance on interior lighting. By maximizing the entry of natural light into the work setting, we not only create a brighter and more inviting atmosphere but also significantly contribute to energy savings and sustainability.
