Project Overview

We are always thrilled when a spec suite is let before construction is even finished, as was the case with EasyGo and this beautiful space designed and built for DBR. Located in the same building as our award-winning End Of Trip project, this spec suite honours the Deco elements of 287 Collins, while delivering a stylish workspace for modern business needs.

Project Brief

Commissioned by DBR, this space needed to be an elegant and stylish offering for prospective businesses looking to lease in Melbourne's CBD.

Functionality was at the forefront of the design- the space needed to accommodate the technological and cross-functional needs of a modern business whilst celebrating the deco elements of the building in which it's nestled - The Royal Bank Chambers building, erected in 1940.

Project Innovation/Need

Our innovative approach was blending historical and modern elements seamlessly. This spec suite integrates the building’s Art Deco heritage, constructed in 1940, with contemporary design and technology. We honored this history with deco-style lighting and period-specific details, creating a workspace that is timeless and modern.

We applied the “unexpected red theory,” adding pops of red to make the space visually cohesive and aligned with the occupant’s branding. Agile workspaces were designed with semicircular desks for quick, informal meetings, promoting spontaneous collaboration without formal meeting rooms.

Our design balances warmth and professionalism with a palette of tans, reds, and brass fixtures, complemented by a feature blue. This selection ensures a welcoming yet productive environment.

We overcame structural challenges from previous demolition and low ceilings and coordinated security with the bank below. These efforts highlight our problem-solving capabilities.

The suite was let before construction finished, underscoring our success in meeting market expectations. Our project for DBR at 287 Collins Street delivers a perfect blend of heritage and modern design, innovative color use, agile workspaces, and a balanced aesthetic, all while overcoming significant challenges.

Design Challenge

Navigating a previous demo of the space, designing around heritage features such as low ceilings, and coordinating security and access points with the bank below, the Concept team are proud of the resulting people-powered workspace.

Sustainability

At Concept, sustainability is a core value that guides our projects. In collaboration with our trusted partners in demolition and relocation, as well as other trades, we prioritize the sorting, preservation, reuse, and recycling of materials.
