Project Brief
STAR STREET is an ambitious duplex project nestled in the Eastwood district of Sydney. The project presents a unique architectural challenge due to the site's complex topography and its surrounding residential environment. The design team has embraced these challenges, turning them into opportunities for creative spatial exploration and innovation.
Design Approach:
The architectural design takes full advantage of the intricate terrain, employing bold and innovative approaches to both vertical and horizontal space configurations. The interior design is characterized by the use of high-quality materials, including marble, sintered stone, and wood, which contribute to a low-saturation, calm, natural, transparent, and harmonious atmosphere.
Project Innovation/Need
Complex Topography: The design maximizes the potential of the challenging landscape, creating dynamic and engaging spaces.
Innovative Spatial Design: Vertical and horizontal spaces are thoughtfully explored to enhance the living experience.
Material Selection: High-end materials like marble, sintered stone, and wood are meticulously chosen to foster a serene and natural ambiance.
Harmonious Atmosphere: The interiors are designed to be calm and transparent, promoting a sense of tranquility and harmony.
Curved Building Facade: The curved facade of the buildings is designed to echo the irregular shape of the site, creating a harmonious relationship between the building itself and its surroundings.
Design Challenge
Irregular Site Shape:
The unconventional shape of the site necessitates innovative design solutions to maximize space utilization and ensure functional layouts within the constraints of the boundaries.
Complex Terrain:
The steep inclines and varied topography require careful planning and engineering to integrate the buildings seamlessly into the landscape, creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces.
Surrounding Residences:
The presence of surrounding residential buildings imposes constraints on light, views, and privacy. The design must strategically address these issues to ensure that the duplex villas offer a comfortable and appealing living environment.
Design Approach:
To address these challenges, the design team has employed a creative and adaptive approach, leveraging the complex terrain to create dynamic and engaging vertical and horizontal spaces. The irregular site shape is used to the project's advantage, resulting in unique and functional layouts. Careful consideration of the surrounding residences ensures that the villas maintain privacy while still offering ample natural light and views.
