Project Overview

This project emphasizes creating a graphic and visual design language for Jipan Restaurant. Situated by the sea near the Xiamen Garden Expo, the restaurant embraces a range of plants from the nearby expo park. Utilizing the concept of deconstruction as a primary approach, the restaurant's design draws upon Eastern aesthetics to reshape the space, systematically creating a contemporary dining experience in nature.

Project Brief

The name Jipan refers to either the palace where emperors and vassals hosted banquets or the water pool situated in front of ancient official academies in the old days. The design focuses on the essence of Jipan, drawing inspiration from the joy of feasts depicted in the Book of Songs while referencing 12 water-themed sketches by Ma Yuan, a painter from the Southern Song Dynasty. Using timeless brushstrokes to evoke simplicity and purity, the traditional banquet style is deconstructed in various ways through the image of water. It is then transformed into a collection of indoor and outdoor visual displays including menus, product posters, and guides based on a contemporary design approach. This fully captures the Eastern aesthetic essence of the restaurant's concept, highlighting the harmony of music and happiness in gatherings.

Project Innovation/Need

The project uses modern design techniques and languages to creatively convey the core of traditional Eastern culture and aesthetic charm.

Design Challenge

1. Utilizing modern design techniques to convey Eastern culture and aesthetics entails conducting multiple experiments to balance elements like Eastern aesthetics, restaurant positioning, and contemporary design language. Attention must also be given to design techniques such as graphic modeling, composition, design style, and color scheme. Only the harmony of these factors can lead to appropriate creations.
2. As this project involves a range of graphic and visual works for both interior and exterior designs across different application scenarios, it is vital to consider the adaptability of initial design elements, coherence across applications, and harmonization among designs.

Effectiveness

The graphic and visual system preserves the interior design philosophy while enhancing the modern Eastern aesthetic appeal of the restaurant with concise and elegant visual elements.
