Drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of 1930s Shanghai, seamlessly incorporates local cultural elements to enhance its allure. It invites patrons to engage and immerse themselves through thoughtful insertions that disrupt conventional Asian-centric dining norms

Project Brief
The design concept revolves around the "Golden Age" of Shanghai, focusing on luxurious textures, rich colors, and opulent furnishings that reflect the era. The concept also aims to integrate Australian cultural motifs subtly to tailor the ambiance to the local audience. The idea is to create an engaging environment where diners can feel transported to another time and place, encouraging exploration and interaction with the space.

Hao Chi introduces innovative concepts to the hospitality market, blending the elegance of 1930s Shanghai with local Australian elements to create a unique Yum Cha's experience. This cultural integration educates and engages patrons, setting the venue apart from typical establishments. Committed to sustainability, Hao Chi uses locally sourced materials and energy-efficient technologies, appealing to eco-conscious consumers. The restaurant's layout optimizes space and customer flow, maintaining privacy within an open setting.
Design Challenge
Addressing the design challenges for Hao Chi involved a nuanced understanding of materials and market needs, alongside cultural integration. Selecting eco-friendly materials that matched our concept theme without compromising sustainability, was pivotal. Understanding local market preferences was essential, ensuring the restaurant’s theme resonated with diners seeking unique cultural experiences.
Sustainability
Hao Chi is committed to sustainability through various initiatives that support both the environment and the local community. Local sourcing is a key strategy; materials and labor are sourced locally whenever possible to reduce the carbon footprint and bolster community economic growth. In terms of energy efficiency, the restaurant has installed LED lighting and energy-efficient appliances, significantly minimizing energy consumption.

This award celebrates innovative and creative building interiors where people eat and drink - this includes bars, restaurants, cafes and clubs. Judging consideration is given to space creation and planning, furnishings, finishes, aesthetic presentation and functionality. Consideration also given to space allocation, traffic flow, building services, lighting, fixtures, flooring, colours, furnishings and surface finishes.
