Project Brief

This project aims to offer a unique blend of luxury, nature, and culture by integrating the natural landscape of Linqi into its design. Located within a region of significant topographical variation and surrounded by abundant natural resources such as mountains, forests, and water, the hotel embraces its surroundings to create a retreat that offers both beauty and tranquillity.

The diverse guest room experiences, including centralised rooms, pool villas, and forest villas, each provide a different perspective of the surrounding landscape. The hotel incorporates Eastern cultural elements through the use of courtyard layouts and mountain and water imagery, offering a peaceful haven where guests can unwind and reconnect with nature.

Project Need

This project brings a novel approach to luxury resorts by fully integrating the hotel’s design with its natural environment. In an era where eco-consciousness and unique travel experiences are highly sought after, this design sets a new benchmark for resorts that prioritise both luxury and sustainability.

The hotel responds to the market need for diverse, immersive experiences by offering a variety of guest room types that blend with nature. It also addresses the increasing demand for wellness and retreat destinations, with its emphasis on nature-based healing and rejuvenation. Through its seamless blend of architecture and landscape, the hotel creates an unforgettable experience for guests while promoting a deep connection with the region’s natural and cultural identity.

Design Challenge

The design challenge for this project was to find a way to harmoniously integrate the hotel into the complex and diverse natural environment of Linqi. The area’s significant elevation changes, combined with its rich mix of mountains, forests, and water, required a design that would respect the terrain while providing a high-quality guest experience.

Achieving a balance between aesthetic beauty and functional needs, such as dining, wellness, and guest accommodations, was key. Additionally, the project needed to blend modern luxury with traditional elements, creating an authentic, nature-infused environment without disrupting the surrounding landscape. The design team had to address the spatial needs while also embracing the uniqueness of the site’s topography and natural resources.

Sustainability

Sustainability was a core focus in the design and operation of the hotel. The project takes full advantage of natural resources such as ventilation, lighting, and plant shading to minimise the need for artificial energy sources, reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint. Local, renewable materials like natural stone, bamboo, and rammed earth were used in construction and decor to limit transportation emissions.

The building incorporates clean energy solutions, including solar photovoltaic panels and ground-source heat pumps, which reduce overall energy consumption. Additionally, sustainable practices such as waste classification and recycling are in place, and the hotel promotes local community development by sourcing medicinal products and hiring local staff. These efforts ensure that the hotel operates in harmony with the environment, contributing to both ecological and economic sustainability.
