Project Brief
Seaforth Residence was designed as a place of rest and restoration for a busy family. The brief focused on creating a calm, light-filled home where daily routines feel effortless. To reduce visual noise, the interior was composed using natural, enduring materials in a restrained and refined form.
Custom joinery and tailored storage support a clean and functional lifestyle while enhancing comfort. The result is a home that balances elegance with practicality—a space that nurtures well-being, elevates quality of life, and offers a sense of stillness amidst the pace of modern life.
Project Innovation/Need
The client sought a home that felt special but never overstated. This led to a design that prioritised subtle innovation over bold gestures. A concealed butler’s pantry was integrated behind the open-plan kitchen to enhance functionality without compromising aesthetics.
Rounded corners were introduced throughout to soften movement and improve child safety. Every joinery piece was purpose-built, blending premium finishes with practical detail. The home reflects a new standard of domestic design—one that values understated elegance, supports day-to-day living, and offers quiet luxury in meaningful ways.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was maintaining a sense of openness while integrating sufficient function and storage. The client desired a visually light, minimal space but needed practical features for everyday life.
To achieve this, a large second sink was discreetly placed around the corner from the island, supporting functionality without compromising flow. The upper-level bar area was designed as a flexible zone combining shelving, storage, and entertaining, allowing the space to evolve with changing needs. These quiet interventions hide complexity within simplicity—resulting in a home that is both clean in form and rich in function.
Sustainability
This project was guided by a long-term view of sustainability, focused on reducing energy use, material waste, and future renovation needs. Passive design strategies, including natural light and cross ventilation, reduce reliance on artificial lighting and air conditioning. High-performance insulation, double glazing, and thermally efficient exterior finishes enhance thermal comfort year-round.
All materials were selected for durability and low maintenance, while custom joinery was built on-site to minimise excess. The home’s timeless form and well-planned layout ensure longevity, supporting both environmental responsibility and enduring comfort for its occupants.
