Project Overview

The design concept for Flat C unit blends Oriental Zen philosophy with the magnificent views of Victoria Harbour, primarily using rouge red as the colour palette to create a serene and warm living space. Special art paint, incorporating marble powder, was used to give the coating distinct layers and a shimmering effect under light, enhancing the overall visual texture.

Project Brief

This project centers on designing a highly functional and inviting 55 square meter urban apartment, specifically tailored to serve as a livable showflat for prospective buyers. The core objective is to demonstrate that sophisticated design and genuine comfort can be achieved within a compact footprint, showcasing a realistic and aspirational lifestyle.

Project Innovation/Need

The core innovation lies in the masterful blend of Oriental Zen philosophy with modern elegance, specifically tailored to complement the magnificent Victoria Harbour views.

The design innovates through the unique application of special art paint incorporating marble powder to create unprecedented layered textures and shimmering effects, elevating the visual and tactile experience. Furthermore, the deliberate integration of a dedicated tea corner merges traditional tea culture with contemporary living, appealing to a discerning clientele seeking a lifestyle of calm contemplation and sophistication. This show flat provides a unique selling proposition by demonstrating how a home can be both visually stunning and a peaceful sanctuary that nurtures well-being and a connection to its natural surroundings.

Design Challenge

Integrating Diverse Aesthetics: Successfully blending the tranquil minimalism of Oriental Zen philosophy with modern elegance and the striking "rouge red" colour palette, ensuring a cohesive and sophisticated result rather than a thematic or disjointed feel.

Achieving Material Nuance: Executing the special art paint with marble powder to consistently achieve its intended layered, shimmering effect, adding depth without overwhelming the serene ambience.

Harmonising with Natural Views: Designing the interiors to seamlessly complement and enhance the magnificent Victoria Harbour views, ensuring the design elements, particularly the "shimmering gold" echoes and red accents, feel integrated with the external environment rather than competing with it.

Translating Zen into a Showflat: Capturing the essence of Zen (calm, contemplation, simplicity) within a high-end show flat environment that must also exude luxury and practical livability, avoiding superficial interpretations of the philosophy.

Cultural Integration: Seamlessly weaving elements like the dedicated tea corner and Oriental ink wash paintings into the contemporary design, making them feel organic and authentic to the overall aesthetic.

Sustainability

The project emphasises the use of natural materials and minimalist design elements to create a peaceful and harmonious living space. This focus on natural materials, coupled with a less-is-more approach, inherently supports sustainability by promoting healthier indoor environments, potentially reducing the reliance on synthetic products, and encouraging thoughtful consumption. The design's intention to create a "warm and sophisticated living environment" also suggests a focus on timelessness and durability, contributing to longevity and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
