Project Overview

In the city, buildings divide space, and time is measured by speed. Yet, between the skyscrapers of Foshan lies a time gap, “Heron Paradise”, where over 20,000 herons soar in the urban wetland. Here, time cannot be possessed, only wasted, listened to, and felt. When we allow slowness and waste in architecture, the home becomes more than just a belonging it becomes those unmeasured, rich moments.

Project Brief

Aesthetics is not just a visual order, but a deeper concern about human comfort and reverence for nature. Modern Orientalism design interprets nature and meaning, making space a medium for dialogue between humans and nature, returning dwelling to the natural way.

Park Lane Complex is not just a relaxed, poetic home, but a place where the spirit can find rest. WU Bin and W.DESIGN team intertwine nature and humanity, creating boundless spaces where time unfolds in light and shadow, dissolving into wind, mountains, and unmeasured scales.

Project Innovation/Need

We challenged the conventional notion of luxury in high-end residential projects by eliminating excessive materials and decoration. Instead, we used fundamental elements—wood, stone, fabric, glass—to construct a spatial order that resonates with the raw, unedited quality of the adjacent wetland. The design reframes luxury as restraint, aligning architecture with nature’s pace and encouraging introspection through spatial clarity and rhythm.

Horizontal expansion and vertical interweaving establish a layered, breathable layout where boundaries blur and circulation flows freely.

Design Challenge

The challenge lay in transforming a dark, compressed basement into a livable, emotionally resonant space. We introduced a sunken courtyard and lightwell to draw natural elements—sunlight, greenery, wind—deep into the building. This intervention not only activated the lower level but also redefined the architectural atmosphere, evoking the spatial poetry of Lingnan gardens, where quietude and fluidity coexist.

Sustainability

We introduced a lightwell into the subterranean space, significantly reducing reliance on artificial lighting and minimising energy consumption. This passive design strategy allowed natural elements to regulate the interior environment, aligning with both ecological and experiential goals.
