Project Brief
As modern living spaces evolve toward multifunctionality and efficiency, people increasingly seek furniture that supports “shared use across multiple scenarios.” Guided by the idea of one table, many uses, the design draws inspiration from the Eastern architectural aesthetics and the natural landscape. The lattice table legs balance visual openness with structural stability, while rattan inlaid tabletop offers a gentle handfeel. The table proportions follow ergonomic principles, allowing the table to adapt flexibly to diverse scenarios such as family dining, home working, and parent-children interaction—achieving a unity of practical functionality, aesthetic expression, and emotional connection.
Project Innovation/Need
The square and orderly table legs draw on the brick texture and lattice patterns of traditional Chinese buildings, enhancing structural stability and architectural beauty.
The tabletop edge is inlaid with a band of rattan, inspired by the eaves of traditional buildings woven from straw and rattan, which not only serves as a decoration, but also softens the visual heaviness of the large table surface and brings natural comfort and liveliness to the overall design.
The table is carefully designed according to ergonomic principles, with precise height and leg spacing for comfortable seating in different scenarios. Its adaptable form and sturdy practical structure allow it to serve multiple roles as an office or study desk, a tea table for guests, or a display table. The table adapts to various needs and scenarios, functioning as practical furniture and an extension of lifestyle.
Design Challenge
The main design challenge was integrating Eastern architectural elements into modern furniture while ensuring structural stability and durability. The table legs are carved from single solid wood blocks into a lattice form, preserving architectural beauty while ensuring structural strength. The tabletop edge is inlaid with natural rattan, recalling traditional eaves while adding elegance to the piece. The design reinterprets traditional essence through a minimalist form, enabling traditional elements to integrate seamlessly into contemporary spaces.
Sustainability
Embracing sustainable design principles, both the tabletop and legs are made from premium ash wood, a renewable material that reduces environmental impact at the source. The table legs are carved from single solid wood blocks, maximizing solid wood utilization and minimizing waste and energy consumption associated with laminated wood. The thickened tabletop enhances strength and durability, extending the product’s lifespan to reduce replacement and waste. Finished with safe, nonirritating, and eco-friendly paint, the table ensures user safety while minimizing environmental impact.
