Project Overview

Driscoll's, the global leader in fresh berries, sought a digital platform that matched the premium quality and vibrant flavour of their fruit. We transformed their Australian website into an immersive, award-winning digital experience that replaces conventional navigation with dynamic storytelling. Through custom development and rich animation, we created a celebrated online destination that truly delivers the brand's core mission of "Sharing Berry Joy."

Project Brief

he brief was clear: design a website that doesn't just display products, but instead captures the irresistible flavour, aroma, and inherent quality of "Only the Finest Berries". The site needed to serve as the brand's digital flagship, celebrating their century-long agricultural heritage while appealing to a modern, digitally native audience. The challenge was to transform the functional process of navigating a food site into an emotional and beautiful experience, moving beyond standard recipes and farming facts to create genuine digital delight.

Our primary objective was to increase engagement metrics (time on site, page views) and earn international recognition for digital innovation. The final platform needed to be robust, perfectly optimised for mobile, and maintain maximum performance despite the heavy use of custom assets and motion graphics. We were not just building a website; we were building the ultimate digital expression of Berry Joy.

Project Innovation/Need

The most novel element is the 'Berry Dial'—a custom-built, interactive navigation system that elevates product selection into a moment of discovery. Instead of simple menus, users spin a dynamic wheel to explore berries based on flavour, colour, and use-case, supported by subtle parallax and responsive animation. This approach is highly innovative in the CPG/fresh produce market, traditionally dominated by simple CMS templates. The outcome is a platform that uses advanced front-end development (e.g., specific library for rich animation) to deliver a unique brand utility, resulting in dwell times significantly higher than industry standards.

Design Challenge

The primary challenge was technical: maintaining high performance and accessibility while rendering complex, rich animation and custom UI elements across all devices. The seamless, fluid experience was non-negotiable, but the sheer volume of high-resolution imagery and bespoke motion required exceptional optimisation.

We overcame this by meticulously structuring the front-end architecture, utilising advanced image compression techniques, and implementing progressive loading strategies. The key was striking a perfect balance: the site had to feel premium and heavy with rich content, but load and respond as fast as a lightweight functional site, successfully translating the superior sensory experience of the product to the digital screen.

User Experience

We designed the user experience (UX) to be a sensory, emotional journey rather than a transactional flow. The centrepiece is the 'Berry Dial', which redefines product navigation. Instead of a traditional menu, users intuitively spin the dial to discover berries based on flavour profiles and culinary uses. This novel interaction immediately fosters an emotional connection and a sense of discovery. Outcomes Achieved: The success is validated by the project's performance. The unique UX led to an average time-on-site increase of 45% and a 15% reduction in bounce rate compared to the previous site.

This award celebrates innovation and creativity in design of a unique user experience in the combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content for websites. Consideration given to clarity of communication and the matching information style to audience. <div>&nbsp;</div>
