Project Brief

This project aims to create a stylish and elegant living space with a Nordic theme, using white as the primary colour. The designer will use gold pendant lights and wall accents to create a sense of luxury and sophistication.

The furniture will feature clean lines and geometric shapes, including a sofa, coffee table, dining table, and chairs. The kitchen will be opened and combined with the utility room to create a spacious, open-plan cooking area. The dining room will be at the centre of the apartment, connecting the living room and the open kitchen to facilitate social interactions among the residents and their guests.

The master bedroom will have a unique wallpaper design that will serve as a focal point of the room. In addition to the master bedroom's closet space, the designer will convert another bedroom into a walk-in closet for the female resident's clothing storage needs.

The designer prioritizes this project's functionality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal, creating a peaceful and harmonious living environment for the residents. This project aims to create a modern and sophisticated living space that reflects the beauty and simplicity of Nordic design while maximizing the practicality of the apartment.

Project Innovation/Need

The project brief outlines a design approach that incorporates the principles of Nordic design to create a living space that is functional, minimalist, and elegant. While the Nordic design aesthetic is not new, the project brings several innovative ideas that add a fresh twist to the market.

Firstly, the use of gold accents in the form of pendant lights and wall accents adds a touch of luxury and sophistication to the predominantly white living space. This creates a contrast that adds visual interest and elevates the design aesthetic beyond a typical Nordic style. Gold accents are relatively uncommon in Nordic design, making it a novel addition to the market.

Secondly, the project's approach to open-plan living spaces is also innovative. By connecting the kitchen and utility room, the designers have created an open-plan spacious and functional kitchen. The central location of the dining room connecting the living room and kitchen is also unique, allowing for easy social interaction and entertaining guests. This approach to open-plan living provides a fresh take on the design of modern living spaces.

Design Challenge

This project's design challenge was to create a space to reflect the desired Nordic theme while meeting the client's Feng Shui requirements. The use of white as the primary colour is essential in Nordic design, but it must be balanced with the appropriate use of metallic accents such as gold. The designer must also consider the client's preference for an elegant ambience, which can be achieved by using specific lighting fixtures and gold accents on walls and furniture.

Besides, the client's Feng Shui requirements also add complexity to the layout and furniture plan. The placement of furniture and overall layout must align with Feng Shui principles to promote positive energy flow throughout the space. This includes paying attention to the location of doors and the placement of furniture. The designer also had to consider the client's preference for Feng Shui while maintaining a reasonable layout from an interior design perspective.

Sustainability

In order to achieve a sustainable solution, we adopted the following ways to achieve this.

Local sourcing: For the project, the team mainly selected materials by local sourcing, such as painting / loose furniture/lighting. This reduces the carbon footprint by reducing transportation costs and helps support the local economy.

Energy-efficient lighting: Energy-efficient lighting can also contribute to sustainability in interior design projects. If we use LED lighting or natural lighting, energy consumption can be reduced, resulting in lower carbon emissions and reduced energy costs.

Economic sustainability: This can be achieved by designing adaptable spaces that can be repurposed for future use. By designing for longevity, the need for frequent renovations or replacements can be minimized, resulting in cost savings and reduced waste.
