Project Overview

This is a 48-year-old pre-owned house renovation project. In view of the fact that the owner's business is a trader of hardware products and often invites overseas guests to their home, the team thoughtfully planned the first-floor space as an open reception and dining area to entertain the guests while the private area is on the second floor up. The design team is familiar with the structural safety behavior of the old house renovation and the corresponding relationship between the load-bearing and load-reducing walls between floors. At the same time, in response to the homeowner's needs, the feng shui restrictions are presented in the master bedroom and children's room layout on the second floor in a way that breaks away from the common planning format and makes the space unique.

Project Brief

Entering the house, one will first see the hollow reception area on the first floor and the sunlight pouring into the room, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The back wall of the sofa is made of thick quartzite marble, which is suitable for large cutting and has high stability. The space is divided into three major areas, and the geometric abstraction, like clouds, is created in a mixed-mosaic way. The dry hanging method is used to create a six-meter-high visual wall for the main space, which subtly extends the vision of the space and creates a majestic atmosphere.

Project Need

Several designers in the team hand-painted the custom-made chandelier hanging from the ceiling on the second floor. The primary color is gold, a metaphor for nobility and loyalty, and is integrated into the entire chandelier. At the same time, the light gray marble wall and the high ceiling on the 1st and 2nd floors are used cleverly to make guests look up when they enter as if they were seeing a golden dragon riding on the clouds and rising up to the sky. The round ball light, which means fullness and infinity, is distributed throughout the entire building, forming an image like a map of the world, which means "to be famous overseas and to promote infinity". The number of globes uses the lucky number "29", hoping that the owner's industry will "rise like a dragon and that it will be successful in its wisdom and strategy.”

Design Challenge

The whole space on the first floor is used to entertain guests. The design team has set up the hospitality area, office area, meeting room, center island sitting area, and cooking area here, providing space for the owner and guests to move around freely. Sustainability

For the project, the designer uses the relationship between the building orientation and sunlight as the core of the planning in both shared and private living areas and adopts large windows to let in much natural light so that the whole space is bathed in sunlight. In this way, there is no need to turn on light sources during the daytime, and it is possible to satisfy users' needs for light sources, thus reducing the use of lamps, extending their service life span, and reducing electricity consumption, thus achieving energy saving and carbon reduction.
