Project Brief

The project brief called for a self-contained co-working space with a range of amenities to accommodate different working modes. From the moment you step into the reception area, you’re greeted with a vibrant color-blocking design that immediately sets the tone for a playful and inspiring workspace. The strategic use of paint colors and fabrics, feature flooring, and lighting throughout the space create distinct zones and a visually captivating atmosphere.

The focus was on creating spacious suites to prevent any sense of confinement. Moreover, the inclusion of stone tops and brass finishes brings an element of sophistication, and the use of reeded glass film ensures privacy without compromising on natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the area with daylight all day long, while curved glass walls and numerous plants throughout the space maintain a sense of openness, even at the building’s core.

Project Innovation/Need

Balancing Openness and Privacy Through Design

Paddock Offices address a critical but often overlooked need in co-working spaces: achieving a balance between openness and privacy. Our innovative approach lies in the strategic use of design elements to achieve this:

Visual separation with retained light: Reeded glass film on partitions allows natural light to penetrate deep into the workspace while providing visual privacy for focused work.
Zoning through design: Strategic use of color-blocking, flooring variations, and lighting creates distinct zones catering to different work styles – collaborative, focused, and social.
Curved glass walls: These maintain a sense of openness in the building's core while allowing natural light to reach even central areas.
This focus on design-driven solutions for user privacy is Paddock's key innovation. It caters to the ever-growing demand for flexible workspaces that can adapt to individual needs without sacrificing a sense of community and shared space.

Design Challenge

Without one specific client in mind, the space had to appeal to everyone.

The design of Paddock Offices needed to prioritize creating an inclusive environment that caters to diverse working styles. The use of color-coded meeting rooms and distinct zones helps all users, especially those new to the space, navigate easily. This thoughtful approach ensures that everyone, regardless of background or familiarity with the space, feels welcomed and can find their way around effortlessly. Additionally, the variety of workspaces, including quiet rooms and booths for focused work, as well as communal areas for collaboration, ensures that the needs of all individuals are met, fostering an inclusive and equitable working environment.

Sustainability

Embracing the Circular Economy through Shared Spaces
Paddock Offices inherently promote sustainability through the concept of a shared workspace. This aligns with the principles of a circular economy, which focuses on keeping resources in use for as long as possible. Here's how Paddock contributes to a more sustainable workplace model:

Reduced vacancy and underutilized space: Instead of multiple businesses needing individual office spaces that may sit empty for portions of the day or week, Paddock allows for efficient use of real estate. This reduces the overall environmental footprint associated with office buildings, including energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting.

Minimized build-outs and renovations: By offering pre-designed and furnished spaces, Paddock reduces the need for individual businesses to invest in extensive renovations or build-outs for their temporary or flexible needs. This translates to a reduction in construction waste and associated environmental impacts.

Flexibility and adaptability: The variety of reserved and shared spaces within Paddock caters to diverse work styles and company needs. This adaptability ensures the space can evolve and be utilized by different businesses over time, maximizing the lifespan of the built environment.

The core concept of a shared workspace inherently aligns with the principles of a circular economy and promotes a more sustainable approach to the use of office space.
