Project Overview
The residential planning project has been designed with a "Zen" theme in mind, aimed at creating a warm and inviting environment. To achieve this effect, the designer has utilized smooth curves, simple blocks, warm colors, and wooden building materials. Moreover, the shared living area has been designed to maintain a sense of spaciousness by using an open environment.

Project Brief
The kitchen space features a center island cooking table, which serves as an alternative to a traditional dining table and saves indoor space. Furthermore, the designer has adopted a minimalist approach and partitioned the shared living space into a "compound height" design, which optimizes space utilization and provides ample storage space. As a result, the space above the back wall of the living room has been utilized to create a private "reading area," which enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the design. In summary, the design is both aesthetically pleasing and practical while also maximizing utilization efficiency.
The integration of the living room and kitchen is a clever design feature that expands the scope of activities that residents can engage in and allows for a smoother flow of movement. Opening the windows optimizes the lighting and ventilation, creating a refreshing and comfortable living environment.
Project Need
As you step into the living room, your eyes are immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The hexagonal tiles on the floor of the foyer are not only visually stunning but also practical, making it easy to clean and distinguishing it from the shared living area.
On the back wall of the sofa, a simple staircase leads to a "Zen Reading Room" that is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. The designer created this space with careful consideration, using a dark wood grille as a spatial divider that provides privacy in the shared liviing area and a sense of presence among family members. The semi-open design is perfect for those who enjoy reading in a quiet space while still being part of the household activities.
The wall in the reading room has numerous storage compartments that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The designer took advantage of the odd space to create these compartments, which provide ample storage space for books and documents. Electrical outlets have been installed in the corners, allowing for the use of desk lamps, stereos, and other electrical devices, making the storage compartments multifunctional. Overall, the attention to detail in this living space is impressive, creating a beautiful and functional space that is both welcoming and comfortable.
Design Challenge
The interior designer has made effective use of available space within the house by installing storage cabinets in non-traditional corners of the corridor. The bedrooms feature a calm and subtle color scheme, with decorative dark wood grilles. Additionally, each bedroom is equipped with a reading desk, providing residents with the convenience of working from the comfort of their own space. The designer has also ensured clear and convenient movement for residents by connecting the cloakroom, dressing room, and bathroom.
Sustainability
In response to the sustainable housing renovation program, the selected wood flooring material is both healthy and low in formaldehyde content, promoting a comfortable quality of life for the residents. Additionally, the floor-to-ceiling windows introduced into the design allow for a generous infusion of natural light and ventilation, thereby reducing the frequency of artificial lighting and minimizing the need for air conditioning. The entrance and bathroom tiles, made from eco-friendly materials, are sourced from recycled materials with a recycling rate that ranges from 20% to 40%, thereby effectively reducing environmental pollution and achieving the program's goals of resource reduction and environmental protection.
