Project Overview

The CyberArk Melbourne office reimagines the cybersecurity workspace, moving beyond conventional, closed-off designs to create a secure yet transparent and collaborative environment. This 375 sqm fit-out was carefully designed and constructed to meet CyberArk's specific needs, emphasising their robust security measures while creating a dynamic atmosphere for both staff and clients.

Key objectives included facilitating growth, creating a client-facing space for workshops and events, and embodying CyberArk's brand and culture. The design cleverly balances aesthetic appeal with functionality, incorporating flexible work settings, advanced AV technology, and sustainable elements like recycled materials and energy-efficient lighting.

Drawing inspiration from Melbourne's urban landscape and integrating elements from CyberArk's Sydney office, the result is a future-proofed space that enhances productivity, collaboration, and client engagement, all within a secure framework.

Project Brief

CyberArk’s Melbourne office was an opportunity to create more than just a workspace. It was a chance to reset the experience of coming into the office. The company’s previous speculative fit-out didn’t reflect their culture, brand, or future ambitions. They needed a space that could do it all: attract staff back in, impress clients, support hybrid work, and provide room to grow.

Working closely with CyberArk, Spaceful designed a highly functional, flexible environment tailored to these goals. The brief called for a space that felt light and bright but with a distinctly Melbourne edge. Spaceful delivered this vision through a moody, muted blue palette and concrete-look floors, referencing the city’s laneways and creative culture, while making the most of natural light and sweeping views of the bay.

The layout balances front-of-house client areas with efficient, high-performing back-of-house zones. Flexible furniture, breakout areas, and future-ready infrastructure support fly-in, fly-out staff, hot-desking, workshops, and events. The windows, framed with a distinctive ‘portal’ design, reflect CyberArk’s commitment to transparency, while biophilic elements contrast with the cool blue tones to create a warm and inviting environment.

Taking into account wider business goals, Spaceful increased workstation capacity while ensuring scalability for future growth, without needing to expand the footprint. The result is a dynamic, brand-aligned space that brings people together, both now and into the future.

Project Innovation/Need

CyberArk’s office fit-out strategically integrates high-security requirements with a contemporary, collaborative workspace tailored to the company’s specific needs and brand. Unlike typical cybersecurity offices that can feel sterile and closed off, the design achieves a transparent and inviting environment without compromising security. The prominent "Faraday cage" inspired signage at reception is not only an aesthetic feature, but also a visual metaphor for CyberArk's core business, immediately communicating their expertise when guests arrive.

The project innovatively balances front-of-house client engagement with back-of-house security. The flexible boardroom, featuring operable walls that connect to the client lounge, allows for large-scale events and presentations, a key objective for growing client relationships. This adaptability, coupled with the integration of advanced AV technology for presentations and workshops, provides a new level of client interaction within a secure setting.

The breakout area, a space for employees to eat, socialise and recharge, features a bold blue marble splash-back that creates energy and reinforces CyberArk’s brand identity. Exposed ceilings contribute to a sense of openness, while LED strip lighting enhances the architectural lines of the space and increases visual interest.

By applying elements from CyberArk's Sydney office and adapting the design to reflect Melbourne's urban aesthetic, Spaceful has created a space that is both familiar and uniquely tailored, enhancing employee engagement and attracting talent in a competitive market.

Design Challenge

The core design challenge for CyberArk’s new Melbourne office was achieving a balance between the company’s global brand identity and the city’s distinctive character, all while ensuring the space remained highly functional.

CyberArk wanted to maintain consistency with the refined aesthetic of its Sydney office, but the Melbourne fit-out had to feel more grounded, gritty, and reflective of the local environment. The office had to feel unmistakably “CyberArk” while offering a unique Melbourne flavour. This required careful material selection, spatial planning, and integration of iconic design elements that linked the two spaces.

To bring this vision to life, Spaceful used a moody aesthetic featuring muted blues, concrete-style finishes, and layered textures, referencing Melbourne’s laneways and creative energy. At the same time, large windows were essential for maximising natural light, helping the workspace to feel open and uplifting. Custom details, like CyberArk signage revealed through a perforated metal screen, subtly reference the company’s cybersecurity roots, while reflecting Melbourne’s urban edge.

Finding the right tenancy with floor-to-ceiling windows that would support the overall vision was challenging. Once the site was secured, Spaceful crafted a layout to support hybrid work, client engagement, and future scalability.

Ultimately, the design challenge was about harmonising competing needs: identity and individuality, mood and light, security and openness. The result is a space that seamlessly blends aesthetic ambition with everyday functionality.

Sustainability

Sustainability was a priority throughout the design and delivery of CyberArk’s Melbourne office. Every decision, from material selection to mechanical systems, was made with environmental impact and resource efficiency in mind.

Key initiatives included the installation of CBUS smart lighting and air-conditioning systems to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational consumption. Energy-efficient LED lighting was also used throughout the space.

To minimise demolition waste, existing ceilings, lighting, and carpets were retained and integrated into the new design. Where new materials were required, sustainably sourced finishes and furnishings were prioritised.

Construction waste was carefully managed, with a strong focus on recycling and reuse. Glass, metal, and carpet tiles were diverted from landfill, and waste was segregated on-site to maximise the recovery of recyclable materials.

Recycled PET acoustic panels were installed to enhance sound performance, and acoustic zoning was achieved using a combination of soft furnishings, built forms, and spatial planning. These strategies improved comfort and usability while supporting sustainable outcomes.

This approach delivered a functional, efficient, and environmentally responsible workplace aligned with both CyberArk’s values and long-term sustainability goals.
