Project Brief
The entire planning process is centered around the people who will be living in the space. The designer takes a keen interest in the owner's living habits and functional needs to configure the space and furniture with precision and care. Rather than following the common layout configuration of a living room sofa area, the designer blurs the lines between public and private spaces, creating an atmosphere of warmth, ease, and belonging that epitomizes the essence of a home.
Project Innovation/Need
The space has a cream color as its main theme, complemented by wooden cabinets, rattan chairs, and black furniture, creating a natural, comfortable, and multi-layered home atmosphere. To make the previously cramped space appear more spacious, the designer removed the walls between the public and private areas, creating an open plan. The design of the rounded walls and ceilings further eliminates the coldness of the space, and expands the scale of the area.
Design Challenge
The living room sofa area was simplified, and the dining table, bar, and TV were integrated into the dining room, making it the "core area" of the home. The zigzag movement planning and the configuration of small, movable furniture allow for unrestricted walking routes and deepen the interaction between people. The reading lounge is arranged by the window, providing a calm and relaxing space to read, with soft plush chairs, black furniture, and green plants. The function of the reading and sitting area can be defined according to the owner's needs, making the space more flexible.
Sustainability
The designers of this residence were committed to creating an environment with exceptional natural lighting. To achieve this, they strategically incorporated window openings throughout the public and private areas, allowing for the walls to be opened up and natural light to flow freely. The space was designed with light color configurations as the spatial spine, which further enhances the natural light. By doing so, the need for electric lighting during the day is greatly reduced. In addition, the designers utilized low energy consumption and highly efficient LED lighting equipment. This not only significantly reduces energy consumption, but also contributes to the overall goal of energy saving and carbon reduction.
