Recognizing consumers’ increased desire for mobile communications, Vonage developed Vonage Mobile, a free app for iPhone and Android. It lets users make free high-definition phone and video calls, send free texts, video messages and photos to anyone who has the app worldwide. Users also get savings on international calls to anyone who hasn't yet downloaded the app with rates that are, on average up to 70% less than those of major mobile carriers (Based on per-minute rates to top 50 countries called. Comparison reflects published rates of leading mobile carriers in markets representing the majority of iPhone and Android users.)

Project Brief

Approximately three years ago, when smartphones were dramatically reshaping the communications paradigm, Vonage developed its mobile platform and the first generation of comprehensive mobile services to enrich our customers’ communication experience. Mobile is now an essential component of our offering as well as a platform over which we deliver new products and services. A key component of this platform is the Vonage Mobile App, which works over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G (data rates apply) and was created to match and exceed consumers’ demands of mobility, functionality and ease-of-use, while offering great quality at little to no cost. The app offers free high-definition calling, texting, photo sharing, video calling, video messaging and voicemail between Vonage Mobile users worldwide, and low cost calling to any phone number in the world, all in one holistic app.

In 2013 Vonage introduced video calling and messaging to the app, enabling people to stay in touch face to face and personalize their communication experience. Today 1 out of 3 calls made to another Vonage Mobile user is a video call. Vonage Mobile was the first to offer the option to leave a video call when a voice call goes unanswered and is also the first consumer mobile application that provides video calling based on WebRTC (real-time communication), which allows seamless video calling between different devices such as a mobile phone, desktop PC, TV or any other platforms.

Vonage Mobile is marketed via the app stores, referral marketing, word of mouth and social media. The app has a Refer-A-Friend program that enables current users to earn calling credit ($1 for each friend who downloads and registers the app, up to $10) simply by referring friends to use the app.
