Project Brief
Every Christmas, we like to send our clients and associates a festive thank you for the year just gone.
Similarly, our clients would like to do the same for theirs.
So, we thought we'd kill two partridges with one festive stone: 'Season’s Greetings Cards' - “Festive Type Set by Folk”.
We designed, produced and posted a set of six greeting cards each featuring a festive typographic illustration.
Six festive words were tweaked to illustrate and celebrate their meaning using just type. Eg, 'BBQ' containing three sizzling snags; a glowing red nose in the middle of 'Rudolph'; a pair of red puckering lips at the end of 'Mistletoe".
The typographic illustrations were designed to be festive, simple and charming.
The cards were lovingly printed by letterpress on a natural white, uncoated card, each with a matching warm red envelope. The set was wrapped in a simple belly band featuring our handwritten message and festive Folk logo, and posted in a natural white envelope.
Project Need
We created a genuinely useful, as well as lovingly designed and produced, set of Christmas cards.
Clients were able to enjoy them as a gift as well as send them to friends and family themselves - which many of them did.
Design Challenge
How to be seen as both understanding and surprising; useful and creative.
The “Festive Type Set, by Folk” served as both a thank you to our clients, and as simple, pleasing greetings cards in themselves, for the recipient to enjoy and/or use if they chose to. (Which many did, we were very pleased to hear.)
Sustainability
The set comprised six A6 letter-pressed greetings cards, each with its own complementary red envelope. These were all wrapped in a letter-pressed belly-band.
The cards and belly-band were hand letter-pressed two colour (black and red cards; black and yellow belly-band) in a small owner-operated studio in Brisbane: Artisan Press.
