Project Overview

The entrance to Lightspeed was designed to acts as a portal that transports visitors from the generic office setting to an unexpected workspace that represents a home garage feel. The casual workplace style was to reflect the contemporary way that work is conducted in today's climate. It is a true representation of the Lightspeed brand and offers an environment that staff relate to and can work comfortably in.

Project Brief

The project brief was to break the convention of the typical office space and create a parallel world to the generic office lobby below that would excite employees and clients alike, reaffirming the quality of the Lightspeed brand as forward-thinkers. The space was to rival that of its sister WPP media agencies and offer a unique representation of Lightspeed as an individual brand within the WPP group.

Project Need

We have created an overall relaxed feel that is representative of the current trends of workplace functionality, but taken it one step further by implementing elements that you would typically find at home. These elements include a recycled brick wall, graphics of posters plastered to the walls, warm colours and timbers to bring life to concrete floors, hanging plants, and a pool room equipped with photos of staff in an assortment of sports activities.

Design Challenge

The biggest challenge to designing Lightspeed was delivering a completely unique concept that worked within a very lean budget that differentiated Lightspeed from the other WPP agencies we had worked with including Maxus, Mediacom, Mindshare, GroupM and TNS. Additionally, the client wanted to show off their new offices by hosting a number of meetings that would coincide with an upcoming industry event, so we also had time constrains.

Sustainability.

Our approach to sustainability was to use as much natural light as possible, use locally sourced product and specify materials thoughtfully. The result was a mix of polished concrete, recycled brick walls, metal beams, open workspaces and glazed meeting rooms with lots of natural light.
