Project Brief

As the first of its kind, the Tolo sofa redefines outdoor seating by offering unparalleled flexibility and functionality. Whether you’re hosting a lively gathering or enjoying a quiet evening with loved ones, this versatile piece is perfect for any occasion.

One of the standout features of the Tolo sofa is its ability to transform into a lounge island with just a few simple adjustments. By flipping over the backrest to the back, you can easily rearrange the large backrest cushions, creating a spacious and comfortable seating area. This effortless transformation allows you to enjoy a cozy spot for relaxation, whether you’re spending time with the kids or soaking up the sun. The mechanism of the Tolo sofa has a worldwide patent!

Project Innovation/Need

The Tolo sofa offers three distinct modes to enhance your outdoor experience:
Sofa Mode: Enjoy an upright, structured seat ideal for dining, entertaining, or creating a more formal atmosphere. This mode is perfect for hosting dinner parties or enjoying a glass of wine with friends.

Lounge Mode: Elevate your comfort by flipping over the backrest to the back. The cushions shift accordingly, providing a deeper, more relaxed seat—perfect for reading, engaging in casual conversation, or sipping coffee by the pool.
Daybed Mode: Rearrange the cushions to stretch out and unwind. This mode is ideal for sunbathing, napping, or enjoying a leisurely afternoon with the kids.

Design Challenge

The challenge was to find a solution to the constantly changing needs and demands of the user. How can a sofa easily adapt to these needs? How can we work out a solution in a user friendly way that is technically smart and easy to produce? The Tolo Sofa adapts to the needs of the user and not the other way around. Depending on the mood of the user, the company of the user or the circumstance in which the user is envolved, the sofa can be adjusted to meet his/her needs.

Sustainability

The frame of the Tolo sofa is constructed from high-quality aluminum, which is powder-coated with water-based paint. This eco-friendly finish not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the sofa but also ensures that it is 100% recyclable, making it a responsible choice for environmentally conscious consumers. The cushions of the Tolo sofa are designed with outdoor durability in mind. They feature UV-resistant fabric that protects against sun damage, ensuring that your sofa maintains its vibrant colors and integrity over time. Additionally, the water-repellent coating on the cushions provides an extra layer of protection, making them ideal for outdoor use in various weather conditions.
