Project Overview

The site is a new apartment, the first home for the client. The client wants to make the space the beginning of his life and symbolise his intention. According to the client's preference, the colour tone is dark, but in consideration of the possibility of new members joining in the future, the design team changed the colour palette in the public area to light tones as the base for balance. As for the private area, the style preferred by the client is presented in darker tones.
Behind the wall back to the sofa, the design team considered the client's fondness for reading, a part of the living room space is made into a study room. The study room can also serve multiple purposes, allowing the client to make different plans at different stages of his life. The cabinet at the back can serve not only as a bookcase but also as a closet in the future to realise the definition of a multi-functional room.

Project Brief

The project is based on a minimalist style, complemented by marble and metal to shape a luxurious atmosphere. The pure white TV wall is divided by irregular lines, while the cabinetry below and the wood grain along the side showcase a warm texture while maintaining a clear layer.
The public area is painted with a beige and wood grain to portray softness and brightness. The light-coloured base sets off the wood tones, while the study room is partitioned by glass to brighten up the public area with colour and lighting.
The light strip on the living room ceiling also leads the view into the master bedroom. The flooring of the public and private areas symbolises the transition between the fields. The private area is presented with a dark-coloured headboard, and the shimmering light from the light strip above creates an understated and restrained taste.

Project Need

●Luxury in Minimalist:
The interior style is relatively minimalistic. To keep the natural atmosphere, the design team made marble beside the shoe cabinet, the edge of the dining table, and the vista, and then placed furnishings to make the marble and metal materials become the highlights.
●Light to dark tones:
Although the client prefers darker tones, the entire room is light to darker in consideration of the possibility of a new family member in the future. The public area is in a light tone, while the master bedroom is presented in a dark tone according to the client's preference. The dark and light colour scheme makes the space suits everyone's taste.
●Atmospheric lighting to guide the eyes:
According to the client's preference, the design team installed lighting strips on the ceiling to create an atmosphere. The light strips extend from the public to the private area and guide the viewer. In the master bedroom, there is also a lighting strip above the back of the bed to form an ambience and to meet the client's need for lighting before bedtime.

Design Challenge

The project took into account the preferences of the client and his family. The biggest challenge for the design team was to blend the two different styles in the space to create an interior design that the client and the family would be satisfied with. In the end, the design team worked with a limited budget to form a minimalistic and luxurious style that satisfied the client.

Sustainability

Due to the other buildings on both sides, the original lighting condition of the site was not ideal. The design team installed honeycomb shades in the public area to allow for natural lighting and to minimise electricity consumption during the daytime. As for ventilation, an ERV and dehumidifier are installed to provide better air quality.
As for building materials, the project is built with green building materials that are qualified, durable, long-lasting, and easy to clean. For example, Benjamin Moore's paint is stain-resistant, scratch-resistant, mould-resistant, and anti-bacterial, reducing future maintenance and renovation costs for the client.
