Project Overview

The retirement home planning project endeavours to establish an environment that is functional, well-lit, and comfortable, while also prioritizing safety and accessibility. In contrast to the segmented layout and distinct functional zones found in traditional homes, this design embraces an open layout, incorporates transparent materials, utilizes multi-functional furniture, and customizes facility arrangements. By offering versatile and diverse usage options, the design not only enhances the overall illumination of the residence but also provides residents with an enriching living experience.

Project Brief

The rapid urbanization and substantial increase in urban density have resulted in a widespread issue of limited living space. The focal point of contemporary design lies in the creation of a comfortable and efficient living environment within confined spaces. Driven by innovative thought, our team emphasizes minimalist, modular, all-in-one functional design to enable homeowners to address evolving needs within limited space. Furthermore, the integration of smart home devices serves to augment the convenience and comfort of daily life.

Project Need

This project was designed according to the homeowner's preferences. The walls were initially coated with art paint featuring a textured cement finish to create a calm and subdued ambience. This was complemented by the use of warm wood materials, resulting in a naturally comfortable atmosphere. The art lacquer is wear-resistant and stain-resistant, while the wood materials are stable and durable. This not only enhances the minimalist beauty of the residence but also prolongs the lifespan of the space. Additionally, some of the cabinet shelves have metal frames to enhance their structural stability.

Design Challenge

To establish a user-centric living environment, the team prioritized planning that harmonizes with ergonomics and the behavioural patterns of the homeowner. This entailed the integration of spaces such as the living room, dining area, and study to optimize traffic flow. By charting the homeowner's daily movements, the team strategically positioned power outlets and accessible storage areas to maximize efficiency. Implementing a smart home system allows for remote control, elevating convenience and comfort. Furthermore, a level floor design devoid of height differentials ensures an unimpeded living space for the homeowner.

Sustainability

This project prioritizes aesthetics, practicality, and the homeowner's quality of life, as well as sustainable development of the environment. To achieve these goals, the team has chosen environmentally friendly materials such as renewable wood and zero-VOC paint. These materials not only reduce pollution but also minimize harm to human health. Additionally, they are durable, which can lower future maintenance and replacement costs. The inclusion of a smart home system, energy-saving LED lighting, and a heat exchanger helps to significantly reduce carbon emissions, aligning with the environmental goal of sustainable development.
