Project Overview

The project distils quintessential Shanghai elements and infuses them with modern architectural aesthetics. Situated along the Suzhou River, the Shanghai Poly Yongxingli ROUGE GALLERY Sales Centre emerges as an immersive theatre of time-honoured splendour, weaving a Shanghai-style narrative through the warp and weft of time and space. Serving simultaneously as a historical fragment and a futuristic prelude, it creates a tangible 4d museum of urban memory through the dynamic interplay of deconstructed classical motifs and contemporary design principles, where heritage becomes an experiential journey.

Project Brief

The project revolves around the concept of a "time corridor," seamlessly merging the charm of old Shanghai with modern artistic expressions. Iconic design features such as a rippling gilded reception desk, red traditional corridors, artistic chandeliers, and porcelain-inspired décor create a visually compelling and culturally rich space. Clear zoning and smooth circulation enhance functionality, while the design breaks away from conventional business environments to provide a more immersive and emotionally resonant experience.

Project Need

Cultural Fusion: Integrates the essence of traditional Shanghainese culture with modern design language to create a unique time-travel experience.
Narrative Space Design: Utilises cinematic elements (e.g., vintage typewriters, jazz-inspired motifs, theatrical set design) to tell the story of the city and build emotional engagement.

Functional Reimagination: Moves beyond the cold, rigid feel of conventional marketing spaces to create a warm, elegant, and people-oriented environment that caters to the demand for immersive, high-quality spaces.

Design Challenge

Cultural Interpretation: Balancing authenticity and innovation in the reinterpretation of local cultural elements.

Material Coordination: Harmonising diverse materials such as rosewood, porcelain, metal, and mirrors required meticulous attention to detail.
Spatial Planning: Crafting a multifunctional layout within a limited area while maintaining fluid circulation and functional clarity.

Atmosphere Creation: Using lighting, materials, and colours to evoke emotional resonance and a sense of nostalgia.

Sustainability

Local Cultural Reuse: Revives and reinterprets traditional Shanghai cultural symbols to ensure cultural continuity.

Material Innovation: Utilises reusable and durable materials like metal and mirrored surfaces to enhance longevity and ease of maintenance.

Energy-Efficient Lighting: Employs ambient lighting and reflective surfaces to reduce reliance on high-energy lighting systems.
