Project Overview

Z31 commercial renovation project is located in the old city center of Chengdu, adjacent to Taikoo Li cultural and commercial district, and forms the core business district of the old town center of Chengdu, which is also one of the most important tourist spots for foreign tourists.
The main building is Crowne Plaza five-star hotel. As an independent commercial podium building, how to respect the original character and reflect the owner's fashion and commercial demands? How to bring fresh life to the city through renewing urban architecture in the high population density area?
We adhere to the concept of people-oriented; fully respect the original main building, aim to create a vertical space commercial center for our city.

Project Brief

The ground floor is a boutique retail store. In an area with such a high landprice, considering the combination of main street near the city and the architectural form, we discussed with the owner then opened several hundred square meters of empty public space on the first floor as the entrance hub of the whole podium building.
The open floor escalator is used to quickly guide people to the entrance of 2F(Restaurant). Inside 2F-3F, the original atrium is used to set up the escalator to form an independent catering area; 4F-5F is “ WE WORK ”shared office space, and 6F, cultural & recreational areas are directly reached through the elevator hall on the empty space. The dining area, the shared office area and the cultural &recreational area all have public greenery using the original architectural form, which forms the public open space with vertical relationship between the empty space on the first floor and the public greenery on the terrace. In the center of the crowded old city, it provides a public space that can meet various functions, and makes the view of urban space more open.

We adhere to the concept of people-oriented; fully respect the original main building, aim to create a vertical space commercial center for our city and bring fresh life to the city through renewing urban architecture in the high population density area.

Sustainability

Considering the horizontal and light influences of original main building stone facade, we adopted standard size grooves combination to present horizontal moldings with different width. The curve terrace of facade combined with integral curve modeling underlines the simple style of the commercial podium building and keep the essence of original building at the same time. It also provides the old town a commercial center in a half-open vertical space.




Open to all international projects this award celebrates innovative and creative building interiors, with consideration given to space creation and planning, furnishings, finishes, aesthetic presentation and functionality. Consideration also given to space allocation, traffic flow, building services, lighting, fixtures, flooring, colours, furnishings and surface finishes.
