Project Overview

The main body of Shangyu Museum is divided into three floors, with a total of 8 large and small exhibition halls. The cultural relics in the museum's collection mainly include Yue kiln celadon porcelain, bronzes, calligraphy and paintings, ancient coins, miscellaneous items, jade and so on. In 2020, the new museum with a total investment of more than 200 million yuan will be put into construction, and the completed museum mainly includes the historical and cultural exhibition hall, the Yueyao celadon exhibition hall, the Tianxianglou Monument Corridor, the ancient architecture special exhibition hall, the temporary exhibition hall, etc., which will integrate the functions of perennial exhibition, flexible curation, leisure tourism, cultural inheritance, academic exchanges, etc., and organically combine with the Cao'e Temple, which is an important part of the filial piety cultural town, carrying forward the essence of the culture of Emperor Shun and Cao'e Filial Piety, creating a new cultural highland, and becoming a new cultural landmark.

Project Brief

The new museum fully integrates the natural view and environmental concept of "the unity of heaven and man" in Jiangnan Water Town, the architectural entity pays attention to the mutual existence of "virtual" and "real" with Xiaode Square, the architectural skyline is gentle and stable, the form and space are quietly integrated, and the external solemnity coexists with the internal void; The classical axis merges with the asymmetrical spatial organization, and light and space are intertwined into the intention of the four waters returning to the church in the inner Jiangnan architecture.

Project Innovation/Need

The architectural scheme of this case presents a situation of stacking and staggered rotation between the two individual blocks. The glass box is embedded in the front entrance, which, together with the densely covered grille background, gives the building a sense of lightness beyond its massiness, describes the building itself with a contrast between the virtual and the real, and seeks eternal balance and change in the points, lines and surfaces. Lighting is a reinterpretation of the image of the building at night. It is not only to illuminate the building itself, but also to explore the relationship between lighting, the building and users. We divide the relationship between the building and the world into two different levels: "outward" and "inward".
