Project Overview

The site is a new empty apartment. The client owns many properties in Taiwan and has many experiences in renovation and a clear preference for style. The entire space is decorated in a cool tone to show a sense of stability and calmness. Both the gradation of Tadao Ando gray marble and the rough texture of the perforated architectural concrete, the elegance of gray is presented to the fullest.
The TV wall is a carved white marble selected by the designer and the client together in Bali. In the gray space, the white and bright TV wall is the highlight of the public area. The TV wall is beautified and computer calibrated to make the whole stone look uncut and enhance the fineness of the material. The display shelf on the left is made of titanium-plated iron and wood veneer, with LED light strips to create a delicate small display area. The indoor intercom is also concealed inside the display cabinet.
For privacy, the design team installed a hidden sliding door between the study room and the second bedroom, which can isolate the sound, sight, and air conditioning, without weakening the sense of space. The study is partitioned by glass, and the floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides gives the public area a better sense of transparency, making the residence calm but not closed.

Design Challenge

The LOTUS design aims to meet the client's needs for sound and light insulation. As the client attaches importance to light and sound insulation, the design team made every effort to strengthen the sound insulation of the ceiling and floor. The windows on the side of the expressway not only have 2-3 layers of windows but also have thick curtains and 3 layers of a national theater-grade acoustic lining to block sound and light.
Due to the client's strong style preference and special needs (light and noise), the two parties communicate closely during the design process to achieve a perfect blend of the client's characteristics and spatial requirements.

Sustainability

The site has the advantage of lighting from three sides. Large floor-to-ceiling windows provide sufficient light and vision in the public area, reducing electricity consumption during the daytime. Meanwhile, when planning the partitions, the design team focused on the light direction of the space. Each room has windows to allow light to fall evenly into each space.
As for the ventilation, in addition to the installation of an ERV, there are windows in the bathroom and the master bedroom dressing room. The natural air convection and heat exchanger provide better air quality.
Finally, in terms of building materials, the design team selected materials with green building material certification and F1 fire resistance to contribute to environmental protection.
